View Full Version : HSV to launch aftermarket business
I know alot of you guys here will like this. I just read it on mellor e-news.
HOLDEN Special Vehicles will launch spectacularly
into the aftermarket business next year
with its performance parts line-up headed by a
supercharger kit for the Gen III/LS1 V8 engine.
The Roots-style blower will be the most
expensive offering in a line-up initially expected
to comprise 25 items. It is expected to retail for
around $10,000 with 800-1250 forecast to be sold
per annum.
But the most spectacular numbers are the
potential performance the supercharger will extract
from the third generation small-block Chev.
HSV’s initial dyno testing using the now defunct
300kW Callaway C4B engine extracted around
350kW and 600Nm, with 500Nm kicking in from
2000rpm.

This was announced about 6 mths ago if you did a search on this site.
My first thought about this is that resale of a moded car may not be as difficult if you had "genuine HSV " performance mods on it.Weather or not they are as good as things that are currently available is another thing? Because it carries the HSV badge l dought it would detract from resale as much as at present.Amazing this hasnt already happened. One thing you could count on is the extra $$$ for that HSV badge I guess.

A very similar senario with Harley-Davidson not so long ago.
Harley produced your standard/base motorcycle, and the aftermarket guys made a huge killing on hot up bits, performance products that were so diverse, you could build a complete " Harley " look-a-like, that actually handled, performed better than the stock bike,... and gave the owner several cataloges of choices to customise their own bike,..or build a complete new one ,..totaly from the after market gear !!
Eventually ( and it took years ) someone at HD twiged  lets buy in to this already existing market !!....The "screamin eagle" range of go fast, look good Harley-Davidson arm was created,...now HD don't just sell the bike, the got the accessories market by the throat as well !!!
Took HSV and GMH a little while to catch on, but you watch from now on !!dress up bits for your car, hot bits (for the track only  ) the skies the limit. ;)

3 observations
HSV have made varied snide remarks about the aftermarket business not so long ago
they did this previously, ala VT1 195i option
will they cover warranty for the blower?

Of course those figures are achieved with only "5.5 psi of boost and no real attempt at calibration" so one can only imagine what "bang for your buck" you could have :D
Also going to produce for the LS2.....
Now Holden are going to look silly for trying to stop punters bolting extractors on their LS2 arent they? :bash: I say just do it!!!

is this a similar deal to what subaru and STI are doing with aftermarket parts for imprezas?
