I like big cars especially the Statesman\Caprice.
I am in the process of getting a new car (near new) soon and I am stuck as to which model I should get. WK or WH II or III ? :bash:
What is the better model the WK Statesman or the WH Statesman ? The same in the HSV Range WK or WH?
I like the looks of the WH both Holden and HSV. But the WK has great features and updated motor\A4.
Are there any bad points with either of these models?
your opinion is GREATLY appreciated.

There's a few of us here with either of the models.
When I was looking at a new Statesman late last year, I was looking at the WK Caprice but chose the WHII International LS8 because it looked heaps better, was a little exclusive (only 350 made) and I was hoping it would hold it's resale price a bit better (and it has).
There was no series III as such but the WH, WH MY2000 & WHII.
I much prefer the smoother styling of the WH over the angular WK.
Mecahnically there is little difference between a late WHII and a WK, but of course from the WHI to the WK there are several changes that make a cumulative difference.
Bad points:
- Both lost/loose big $$$ from new (espcially the Caprice), so S/H buyers win here.
- They are heavy compared to Commodores and drink a bit more.
- Underbraked
- All the usual Commodore glitches

I agree
I bought mine in july this year and was looking at the styling of both cars and the WH won hands down. Give it some mods and you have a better looking and better performing car for a cheaper price...
Just out of curiosity why would you want to upgrade from a WH international to a WH II. Its not worth it in my opinion

Can't agree at all the the WH is the better looking car. WK is streets ahead IMO, plus the interior is much nicer. WH is starting to look dated. Would probably look alright with a set of Monaro headlights on it though.

there are about six of us stato owners that do have the monaro headlights wezza ( and yes it looks sh#t hot with them on ) but i guess at the end of the day its personal preference.

iwantahsv,
I agree with you, it's not worth upgrading from a wh I to a wh II.
ok here's my deal, I will be in a new job in a month and with that comes company car. My current car at the moment is under a CHP contract.
In my new job my future boss said that we will pay for everything as in the car and all expenses. ( my current package is only car alowance. which only covers my CHP). I am really planning on a wh III grange. I have seen some with very very low k's. I don't like the "edge" of the WK\WL. But to be honest A WL Grange ls2 sounds very tempting !!!
I have to agree with fixel the wh II international ls8 is definately the best looking (in and out) out of the wh (except HSV Grange) range. I actually saw one in a used car dealer on the weekend. He was asking for $39,990. only 24000 on the odo.

Unless it's a Caprice :D
I would go to a WHII Caprice over a WK statesman.
But hey I'm not a neutral party.

Best to have a drive of both and get one with factory warranty. Being a Statesman it will lose money faster than most Holdens. It's alot of car for the money.

I took a new WL Caprice for a spin and other than better seats found it lacking compared to my WHII. The Dash was colour coded to the cars exterior and i found it very "plasticy" and tacky. Suspension was better than the WHII had stock but miles behind aftermarket options. Engine is identical so nothing new there. If id gone for it id have paid $40k+ changeover for the DVD screens and new dash. Overall i find the WHII looks better with its curves and i still prefer its interior over the WK/WL. I looked at a WK Grange (can get one for $80k brand new driveaway)
I'd still take the WHII Caprice and spend the change (30k+) on mods. You get a far better end result.

Thanks Voodoo this was a great help.
I am leaning towards a WhIII or WHII grange. Prefer black, blue or shanghai red. I will probably opt for another CHP but get my new work to pay for it.
That way I will own it in the end and I can add the good bts without the hassles of lease conditions.
It really depends on that the boss would prefer me to have.
I have looked on carpoint and there is a black WHIII grange with 40k on the clock for $47,000 this is going to be my benchmark.
My jaw dropped when he said to me last week ".....you can sell your car and include a new car in your package....do you like the hsv grange?..." and thats no bull !!!!
So you see thats my delema! I much rather get a WHII or WHIII shape Statesman but it all depends on what company car package he is going to give me !
I will keep you informed I will probably find out by Friday what my package is.
thanks again

Fixel,
Sorry Fixel I ment WH Series II. I had the impression that this car:
http://www.carsales.com.au/pls/carsales/!cs_content.dealer_vehicle?vehicle_id=2026908¤t_rec=8&total_rec=11&sort_type=1&make_id=81&model_id=551&state_id=-1&search_distance=25
...was a WH Series III. But it says WH II...Must get my glasses checked.
Appologies again :bash:
F2000,
If it's any guide, I've had the VS, WH, WHII and currently a WK Grange. Each model has been a noticeable improvement on the previous model, the biggest gain being the jump to the WK, which is based on the Caprice. All the others are Statesman models, which I'm sure you know. Having only had the WK a year, I'm currently mightily PO'd with HSV to have brought out the WL so soon  Resale values are bad enough after two years, to stuff us up after only a year is making me seriously consider another make next year (& I'm No 5 on the Frequent Buyers list!).
The models: WH had/has a more fluid shape, and is still a lot more attractive than the angular WK. Engine power (on the Grange) is heaps more, and massive torque increase came with the WK. Not so much with the Statesman, but still 'enough'. Suspension and tyres, plus brakes, are all (IIRC) better on the WK Stato, certainly on the Grange variants, but I had to do a deal to get Premium package on my WK. Standard WH series brakes are marginal, and will fade very quickly under repeat use.
Cabin fit and comfort are what you'd expect with a luxo barge, and the appeal is purely subjective: but the WK has better radio, control features, air con, etc. All to be expected in a model upgrade, even one as cosmetic as the WH to WK. Some little features on the WH (eg pockets in the front of the seats) were dropped on the WK, once again personal preference.
Let us know what you decide!

I'm pleased that you luxo barge folks are happy with your investment, I thought ( had been told , by a guy in the U.S. so it must be true :) ) that the Staties were the big depreciators.
Good news, as if the Chrysler 300c is a no show I would be a starter for a luxo barge

Thanks Heli,
I am going to look around this weekend. I prefer not to test drive until I am actually ready to buy. But Will be definately giving the WL Grange the once over.
I can understand Heli why you're PO'ed about the release of the WL Grange. Look on the bright side, there more options available to you having the 5.7.
Heli, What Wheel option did you get on your Grange?
Can you still get the Wheels that were fitted on the WH Granges on the WK/WL Granges?

The WH had an 18" wheel standard, the WK had 18" with an option for 19"s, with a different pattern to the WH. I didn't like the WK 19", so I changed them for the GTS 19". The WL has another rim altogether: the HSV website has the options.

Ok and update on this thread,
I have had a look and drove a WK 5.7 Statesman. I couldn't compare it to the WH because it had that 'new car feel' about it and all new cars feel good.
But I had a REAL GOOD look at it. Checked very part of the car and looked at it in every angle. Conclusion: WH Statesman's HSV and the like are much better looking! Especially the Granges and Internationals
I also drove a WH 2001 Grange. Apart from the stiffer suspension, LSD and abit more power in the engine. It felt like I was driving my WH. I couln't justify the extra 20+k plus change over for those little extras.
So my decision is this. I am going to keep my luxo barge and with the extra car allowance I will be getting, I am going to start a little project.
I will post pic's as i complete bits and pieces of the project.
Big thanks to everyone who replied to this thread. You all have been a great help.

Having had a VS, WH and now a WK Statesman I have to say that the WK Statesman is overall a better package luxury wise than the previous models.
