I like it - pity you lose the OTR though. The only thing that looks outta place is the red grills. The grey accents in the front match the spoiler but I would prefer the grills to be black, or even better none at all. Looks good though, nice and neat. :)

Yeah, looks pretty good, perhaps not red for the mesh part, black, or the same colour as the surround.

So do the holes actually go somewhere, or are they just plastic stops? Can you drill each of the holes to let air through into the engine?

Sonny that looks real nice!
Grey accents work for me too! First impression on the red grills ... well no, too much... , nothing else to 'key' them into the car ( no plate excluded ) worth a try though. Leave em in and go matt black.
Great result :)

Has anyone put one of these on a VX SS?

I Just spoke to the body shop about putting the scooped bonnet on when they fix it. When they called Holden for the price, he was told I would require monaro guards, headlights, front bar, and a bunch of other stuff... I fail to see the need for this. Is this just a case of the holden dealer trying to sell some more parts?

The body shop has no experience with these bonnets (but from all reports does top quality work) so they dont know how to proceed. Its already driving me insane being without the car for 1 1/2 weeks so I realy dont wan't this delaing things further (already looking at another 3 weeks).

So, what I am after is someone who has put one on and knows what they are talking about (without trying to sell me things I may not need).

I would welcome any info either posted here or by PM. Being willing to talk to the body shop if they have questions would also be fantastic.

I have extensively researched this and no you do not need to change anything on the VX as the new bonnet will just fit straight on. Its a simply swap and change. If you wanted a monaro front bar then yes you would need to change the lights. That holden guy either doesn't know what he talking about or just wants to increase sales...

It definately did on my VXSS. Though I then changed the front bar as well.

Fibremaster have bonnets very similar (the scoop inserts are moulded) to these available in fibreglass. Their wagon was at summernats. Being Fibreglass may make it easier to fit to VYs.

Well I got my bonnet ordered yesterday arvo. After speaking to 5 differnet dealers in melbourne, who all offered different prices/service/knowledge/availability! It seems while the bonnets are now in stock from GM, there is one peice on backorder... somehow they have run out of the peice of plastic that goes on the internal side of the left scoop... now it realy makes you ask the question, when placing thier production order why would someone say "I want 1000 bonnets, 1000 right scoops, and hmm lets say 750 of the left scoop".

Anyway I must give credit to the parts department of Doncaster Holden, they were the only ones who put in the extra effort to help me out. They were able to find the missing part at an interstate branch and will be delivering the whole thing soon.

$1100 was the damage, which is slightly more than one of the last posts mentioned... but atleast its happening (and quickly).

Nice to see that pic of the red SS with scoops... there will be another like in around soon.

Thanks for the heads up. That is a pretty good price - enough to be pretty tempting.

Can anyone suggest who around Melbourne could finish and paint one of these bonnets from Holmart?

I guess I could get a few bux for my existing bonnet, so that should offset the changeover cost by a little.

I'm just wondering has anyone got picture of all the components that make the nozzles on the VZ Monaro bonnet? because I cannot see where they say its blocked to stop the air coming in
I have the nozzle (Outside off Bonnet), I have the Mesh screen that fits on behind on the plastic tags, I have that Black bit of Plactic that goes behind the mesh and click in but is cut out?? and does not block the rear of the mesh, And i have the Bottom section that goes under the bonnet (flexible) and that has narrow slots in it so what i'm trying to say is mine is not blocked, did i get the US version or is this normal?.
By the way the VZ Monaro i can see clearly the Blocked bit of plastic behind the
plastic mesh.
I'm still waiting to get the bonnet painted, I've just been looking at all the pieces
that make the nozzle to find out what goes where..

I now have everything I need for my bonnet before painting and fitting, I also got new windscreen washer squirters on the bonnet but I have a feeling they are the wrong ones The ones i got have a P/N 9114646. 14 51 226 and the other is 9114648. 14 51 227 can someone please confirm that these are not for a VZ Monaro bonnet, they look different than my ones on the Monro now. I was told that the series 1,2,3 and the VZ have the same squirters
Any feedback appreciated

Pardon my tardiness but in a way I wish Holden wouldn't sell them. I like the idea of only VZ cars having that unique bonnet because thats the car it was made for. It's the standout trademark of the VZ.

You non-VZ owners should upgrade cars not just bonnets if you want to join the VZ Monaro club. Letting any old Holden have them devalues the VZ's prestige and uniqueness :booty:

Fair comment, but....... do you want to ban any customising of cars.
I think one of the great things about these cars is that the parts can be interchanged to create something individual.

Personally, I don't really like the narrow front air dam or the double fog lights on the VZ, I think the wide air dam suits the scooped bonnet.

Again it highlights that everyone's taste is different, and that's why we customise!

I have all the bits and pieces now for my Bonnet and it wont be long for a spray
job..... One question...
I rang up four panel beater/spray painting shops and three of them said that they would have to spray the top of the guards. I said "no way", they said the paint is very hard to match (devil yellow). Although one panel shop said he would be able to match it but it would cost me extra. Why can't they match it? Or are they just too lazy or driven by time.
Three months ago I put a rear wing spoiler on my CV8, I was concerned about them matching the paint. Whilst at a holden dealer getting some warranty work done, one of the mechanics slipped me a phone number to a spray painter/after market fitter at Moorooka, Brisbane, now he guaranteed me he would match the paint perfect and I can tell you he did!!! I tested it under fluorescent lights, cloudy days and full sunlight and it is 100% perfect. Mind you, I did make it a little easier for him, the first day that I bought the CV8 home, whilst picking the car up and them putting petrol in it at the dealers, one of the guys walked backwards and snapped off the petrol cap cover, so I went home with a new car with no cover. That cover has come in handy as I kept it and I gave it to the spray shop and said "Match this" and indeed they did. All I hope now is they do the same for my bonnet as I told the owner of the spray shop I will be giving you the petrol cap cover back again so you can match it for the bonnet, he laughed. Well, all I have to do now is save some money to have it painted. After paying two Monaro rego's and insurance it has drained my account.

Out of the seven spraypainters I got quotes from to
respray my bonnet/bar and spoiler, 5 of them insisted
on spraying the front guards as well. They told me
it is practically impossible to guarantee an exact match,
and it may show up in some light if they leave the
guards. The 2 that were going to leave the guards
were not that convincing when I asked them if the
match will be perfect (words to the effect of "you
would have to pretty picky to notice any difference")
The respray paint is of a far better quality than the
factory paint anyway, so in the end I am glad I went
with the full respray for a few hundred extra.
Good luck with it, I am starting really to like the look
of that bonnet on the sedans, I had better stop looking
at the photos though as I could only imagine the
response if I told the dearly loved wife that the freshly
painted bonnet is getting ditched for a new one

How did the paint match?
Mine was painted last week (devil) it came out lemon, the paint shop rang up the paint manufacture to see what in the hell is going on. See the Paint shop just changed its supplier and used a different companies paint. The rep from the company came out and scratched his head. It has been re matched manually and painted and I will find out this tuesday what's it like. (fitting time)

Ill keep the old bonnet though incase it doesnt look real flash, but it should look tough, mine is the phantom colour as well so it should look sweet or tough hopefully lol

HI GROUCH, ute look very tough is your ute a vy and if so how does the the bonnet fit at the windscreen end ? did you have to modefy the plastic part that goes across the bottom of the screen with the wipers and washer jets in it .COULD you post a pic of the corners near the windscreen please .AND did you changed your front gards to. mine doesent fit right yet. :( THANKS

G'day mate, nah my ute is a VU, the bonnet fitted straight on. Didn't change the guards or anything, fits perfectly.

I'll post some pics of the fit during the week (I don't have it here at the moment, the gearbox is broken again).

By all accounts fitting these bonnets onto a VY requires a bit of modification, but it can be done.

Getting older,
that came out very nice mate.
Colour matched up nicely too.

Red Maloo R8,
Those scoops look awesome, they really suit the Malloo I think.
Looks great.

PS. That ute is LOW!

I must admit the scoops do look quite nice, especially when you combine it with a different coloured insert. I particularly like the red on black & the silver on charcoal.

Holden has had a price rise on monaro bonnets so if you were thinking of doing the upgrade see if you can find someone with old stock.

Looks slick, red grills add a little venom. I am looking to add the same bonnet to VY SS. Anyone else out there know or completed of this mod ?

I've got a VX Berlina wagon that I hit a roo with the other night, so new bonnet under insurance. So all I have to pay is difference between std bonnet and monaro bonnet to get one.
After searching around the forums, (and this one is the best on the subject) I'm still a but confused about which one to use. Unfortunatly I can't see a lot of the pics that people have posted.
I've written down a couple of different Pt No's that people have posted.
Are there different bonnets???
I just want to make sure I order the right one that will fit like factory fit.
The panelbeater I'm using fitted one to a ute a while ago but had a lot of trouble as the bonnet was longer and wider than the original.
If someone with a VX that has fitted one that fits spot on has the part numbers, I'd appericiate it.

SandmanUte,

I don't have the number but I have a monaro bonnet fitted to my VX Clubby. Taking pictures on the weekend. I can email you if you want. I got mine from Lansvale Holden($900). Fits fine the only problem I have at the moment is my OTRCAI does not fit with the bonnet on. However Sonny and I are working on that.

Cheers
