I noticed the HSV website versions had edited out the (admittedly, very few) bad remarks about the car.

One slightly used UK registered Monaro VXr.

Only done 500 hard miles of extensive beach sand drifting with the occasional dunk in the sea for special effects.

Has had the BBC Top Gear team arses in it - Celebrity Driven!

NB: The standard warranty covering rust protection is no longer included.

See the dawk from SMH got his facts wrong on the 'Best Muscle Car'.
Didn't take time to research it enough and thought the Vauxhall Monaro VXR must be a fair dunkim Aussie Monaro.

A DUH!!!

The Vauxhall Monaro is Best Muscle Car, according to TopGear magazine in Britain.

Monaro award coup

THE English have fallen for another Aussie export. The Holden Monaro, wearing Vauxhall badges, has been named Best Muscle Car by British magazine TopGear.

Respected motoring writer Jeremy Clarkson awarded the title to the Australian-made coupe, which sold out within three months of going on sale in the United Kingdom.
The total British quota for the car was only 350 vehicles, but it's still an excellent result for Holden, according to spokesman Jason Laird.

"The car's really struck a chord in the United Kingdom," he says.

"To receive accolades from TopGear is fantastic."

The success of the "Vauxhall" Monaro has partially offset bad news from the United States, where Pontiac marketing manager Larry Pryg confirms the number of Pontiac GTO-badged Monaros ordered has been slashed from 18,000 cars this year to 12,000 next year.

But the fall in exports to the US will not affect overall Holden output in Australia, according to Laird.

"There won't be any impact in our production because our Elizabeth (near Adelaide) facility is running full tilt, and if one program slows down we just use that capacity for other programs," Laird says.

"We're selling everything we can make in Australia."

The GTO has been criticised in the US for not being extreme enough in terms of appearance and performance, a concern addressed in the 2005 model that has look-at-me bonnet scoops and the 6.0-litre LS2 V8 engine that's shared with the Chevrolet Corvette and HSV cars.

Ther was a thing on TV a few months ago celebrating the 50 years of Holden, and the original TV advertising campaign for the Monaro was two lifesavers with a Monaro each parked on the beach. Some chick is attempting to drown so they hammer these two coupes along the beach to go and save her. Maybe it was a throwback to this ad??

Or possibly not......... My Internet is too slow to look at the link BTW :(

Top Gear awarded Best Muscle Car to the HSV GTO not the Holden Monaro.

Maybe I'm just a little too pedantic!!

Maybe the confusion is because in the UK the HSV GTO is badged as a Monaro VXR..............and the standard Monaro is just called the V8.......

Only those of us who drive HSV'S in the UK know there is a difference!!!!

That makes sense it being the GTO. I was doing some rough currency translations and it did not add up being the Monaro. The VXR is around 32,000 GBP converting to roughly 83,000 AUD. This left me wondering why do the American's get is so cheap too.

Nice to see the 6.0l beauties are on there way.

We in th UK were a bit p1ssed off to see the cars on the sand too, but to receive a glowing report for Clarkson was very pleasing :).

It's a shame we don't get them, or at least aren't offered the body parts through GM. Everyone drools over the HSV Coupes here.
