View Full Version : VZ digital speedo
Does the VZ digital speedo (this is a simple push of the mode button, no mucking around to be had) have a maximum value that it will show? The one I saw was having trouble showing greater than 249kph, so was wondering whether it simply won't display above this value?

I believe 255 is the max - which is the highest possible for a two-digit HEX field (FF)
hmmm- "my friend" told me it seemed like it was still accelerating (slowly) at 249kph but the digital read out stayed on 249kph, maybe it was topping out?, running out of room and too busy to watch the analogue reading to see if it was over 250kph he said! The car has 3400kms on it, perhaps when it frees up some more (and with some more room).

I thought the 255 is for the speed limiter, and is in mp/h..ie the sedans effectively aren't speed limited. The digital speedos I thought continued past that point.

you mean speed alert? Speed alert on the VX has a max of 200

And where are you going to reach those speeds anyway?

northern territory!!!
you can also put it into that diagnositc mode,
you can see if there are ant fault codes. lol its in binary
also tells you if the fuel guage is working properly.

well if you have enough grunt, > 255 can be seen on some of the longer race tracks around the country

NO, I mean speed limiter, as in the utes are speed limited but the sedans are not. That is the only place I know of that has FF as the hex value....
I know speed alert only goes to 200 but the digital speedo I believe goes a lot higher than that.....
not much of a mechanic but knowing a bit about computers. I would guess the limit of the digital speedo is 256 combinations. So starting at the speed 0 to that would make the highest speed 255.
Just a guess. I could be wrong

Hmm looks like my diploma in electronic engineering will come in handy... We did 6 subjects of digital going over and over binary

This digital speedo has definatedly got some problems. I took another VZ SS for a test drive (from another car yard ;) ) and this time i really tested the car.
Was driving it for about half an hour, trying a few different things, and seeing this thread on here, i thought i'll try this digital speedo too. Anyways, it was set to show how fast i was going, it worked a treat until i stopped at a red light, and took off as if in a you know what.... ;) the car rocketed, with more of a wheel spin that i was hoping for, but none the less when i reached 90kp/h and started to slow down as i had to turn into a side street to go back to the car yard, the anologue reading was showing approx 80km/h where as the digital was showing low 70's!!! I kept my eye on it and even when i slowed down to 60km/h the digital was showing high 40's! After i turned into the side street, i accelerated and it was still showing incorrect reading. Even the sales man that was in the passenger seat was confused. lol.
Oh well I think i better wait for the series 2, and hope that they have these little gadgets sorted out by then

must have been either hallucinating or the car was ****ed. my digital readout has been 100% flawless since i got the car.i even went past a coucnil speed display thing and it read exactly what the digital readout was.
