I have been asking around perth, now i want to ask you guys. Will headers from a VT R8 fit my WH Stato? Everyone says its a waste of time and they probably wont fit, cause of the speed-sensitive rack n pinion. They ALL try to sell me extractors, but i am on a tight budget, so $$$$ will go on a 'sure-flo' cat back!!! The feed back on 'sure flo' is too good to go anywhere else. If i stick with just a cat-back, are the HSV headers a worthwhile addition? Thanks in advance. :D

They may not fit due to the speed sensative steering as i had this trouble on my calais as it had speed sensative steering as well, only specially made headers will fit on the calias,it may be the same case with the staie,,i got my headers for my calais from D Fillpo exhausts, give darren a call as he can answer any questions you have (03)97470747

Doesn't the Senator and Grange have speed sentsitive steering? I doubt that HSV would makeup two designs of pipes for thier model range...

I put standard Pacemaker Try-Y's on mine with no clearance issues (other than the heatsheild near the PCM touches it a little) I thought the pacemakers stuck out a bit further anyway.

might not help you out a lot but i know they fit stato's no probs

If your motor is unopened, just leave the cast manifolds on ;)

Just get an exhaust place to make you a full twin 2 1/2 inch system from the cast manifolds back to the tips

Smoke,

I can tell you your better off spending the money on a catback system and keeping your standard headers.

I had Sureflo install a custom 2 1/2 system on my stato and boy did it make a BIG difference. Especially in the Torque Dept! :D

Better to free up the restrictions in the exhaust first then look at extractors.

I got it dynoed after in the install and I picked up an extra 15rwkw! (oh I have a K&N filter installed too)

I will be adding pacey try y's in the early new year.

Get the Catback first !! Make sure to tell the guys to Open up the Cats too!!.

THANKS GUYS :) I am definately getting a cat-back! Just wanted to confirm a few things about my exhaust.I just couldnt see why exhausts shops say they wont fit, when they are fitted to hi-end HSVs  Atleast i can get a straight answer on this forum. U GUYS ROCK :D

It will fit no problems. I have a VXII calais with the speed-sensitive power steering and ti fits with heaps of clearance. They are only the short headers anyway. I noticed more drivability and a better willingness to punch the redline without the associated harshness I was used to. However I did get the Cat pipes towards the engine bay opened up at the same time. You should be able to pick up a set for about $150 (a guy has some on sale now in the classified section). I had mine fitted and the pipes opened up for $120, which I didn't think was too bad.

I would recommend a cat back as well. I put a remus-race on the calais, which is loud and a bit droney. After putting the headers on, it gave it more of a V8 rumble, still obviously loud, but sounds ok now.

Youll probably find a small improvement, most zorst shops toss them out, or sell them very cheap....i brought a full system off a VY Clubby here in Perth, delivery k's only, including headers for $150. Hang around some shops and youll probably get them for nothing.
If youre after a big improvement though, go for a full aftermarket setup.
