I was driving back to Brisbane from Maroochydore on the Sunshine Motorway on Tuesday and saw a guy pulled over by an unmarked police car ( just where tho old toll plaza was) So what !! you might say, except in this case the car was a metallic black Falcon XR ute with a black canopy and personalized plates BM or BZ something. It was in full pull-over mode with red/blue consealed strobes flashing behind the blacked out grille as well as the high beams alternately flashing on the left and right. Also there were the blue/red strobes flashing through the heavily tinted rear screen of the canopy. So if you are up the Sunshine Coast north of Brisbane watch out for the BLACK XR. Anybody else seen this one or other covert cars ??????

Already covered here (http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=31191)

For those who are validated maybe. For those who aren't, is it already covered elsewhere?

Steve.

They need some sort of bait to entice the Holdens out there to speed. An undercover commodore doesn't work. Holden drivers have respect for other Holden drivers. ;)

By the way, the boys in blue are also using tricked-up VY utes to nail motorcycle riders in the Mt Glorious to Wivenhoe fanging road

Got busted a couple of months back by a pair of Police Officers in a silver BA station wagon that was loaded to the hilt with Orange (mobile phone dudes) promotional gear. Balloons, showbags etc etc. Did not look like a cop car at all.

Anyway, they followed us along the Nepean Hwy for a while and when we moved on a little bit eventually decided to pull me and my mate up in St Kilda.

What did we do wrong? Talked on Uniden handheld two-way radios. Got a warning and a "have a good nite".

Spose i shoulda known something was up, the last three digits of the rego were 666.

Best one i saw was when i was in Adelaide earlier this year, oone of those RV Falcon utes, the lifted one, had a VYSS pulled over, looks like the guy tried to drag him at the lights, it was black and there was no wasy of telling it was a cop till the lights came on!

A mate of my mine also got pulled over by one of those XR utes with a canopy. It was a phantom purple XR6 (Doesn't know if turbo or not). Cop chased him for 5 kms on the motorway and decided to let him go coz my mate admitted to driving like an idiot.

Speaking of which, today i saw a black Crewman SS in Altona (melbourne) pull over some dude.

The strobes that usually sit behind the drivers side back passenger were visible in the top right of the utes back window... which was _black_ mind you!

Apparenlty the Utes on MtGlorious have "Jet Pilot" stickers on the back window.

I heard that over 12 months ago, so I would think that might have changed by now.

Anybody else seen this one or other covert cars ?????? Very sneaky. I'd be less likely to take the bait with Fords or Holdens but rice is a different matter. I'll plead guilty there. I'm curious, has anyone seen the heat getting around like that in Silvias, Skylines, WRXs, 200SX, etc.? That would be the next level in stealth tactics.

It wouldn't surprise me if sooner or later the cops were driving around jap turbos. Makes you wonder really, why they put so much effort into patrolling our roads and catching out drivers driving a little over the speed limit (something 99% of us do, yet we feel we are safe and in control and not endagnering others), when I personally think they should focus on real crimes such as robberies at service stations, assaults at train stations and in alley ways, house break ins at night (specially in holidays), and being at bars and pubs when fights break out. It takes coppers 2 hours to respond to a house break in, but 20 cops can be on you within 5 minutes if you put up a chase. They there by chance?? No!!

There's a riced-up Lancer here in Sydney...also a BA XR ute with P plates. Both unmarked police cars.

You hardly ever see them though. It's nowhere near as bad as you Queenslanders have it.

my sister was telling me about a wrx and commodore painted with flames and other visual mods, with small police sticker on the back, pulling into a school at blacktown.thought it was just a road safe thing ,then a few days later my sister inlaw saw the wrx race a skyline at blacktown and pull him over.

Police in Vic have been using unmarked Subaru turbos for a few years for traffic “enforcement” I have also seen a Commodore ute with a radar fitted to a roll bar behind the cab in Vic.

This is scary! When I was on my way to willowbank on wednesday night, our group of cars past a unmarked car that had pulled over a red VY SS Ute towing another car.

At the time I could have sworn the car had personalised plates, and you know what, it did!

It was a Mercury Silver XR6 Turbo police car, PPQ and red/blue lights inside and flashing highbeams. Lucky I don't race other BA's haha.

Just saw another unmarked XR6 while coming back into the city. Mercury silver, sedan, TRI 24 PPQ plates.

Signing out until 2005... off to celebrate. Have fun everyone.

That's probably the same one that was traveling south down past the Burpengary weighbridge last week at about 90 k but didn't fool too many as he still had has lights behind the rear louvre still flashing

Just curious... was the personalized plate on the mercury silver XR6, "TRI 24?" Ring any bells? If it's the same car as the one I saw last night then there probably aren't as many of these unmarked sports cars going around as first thought.

The STi's used for PR work at big motoring events (mostly ricer events I think). The VT's good old BLUEY2.

No!! Well, all those things you mentioned are the hard stuff... as in they have to actually have to do some legwork. Walk past a police beat around 6pm and chances are they're watching the Simpsons and not the surveillance cameras.

Until a few years ago Queensland police headquarters at Roma St was closed after hours if you needed assistance. Some poor guy was bashed late at night on his way home, thrown in the river under the freeway, and subsequently suffered severe brain damage. The woman with him at the time ran to the nearest police station for help--which happened to be Roma St headquarters, you know, the big building with a giant police logo--only to be turned away because there was apparently no one in the building who could do anything. Meanwhile her friend was lying in the river slowly dying from severe head injuries. After that incident there must have been an inquiry because I've heard you can now get assistance from headquarters after hours.

The bottom line for them is it's much easier to drive around writing out tickets or point a speed gun while eating donuts than respond to serious problems like robberies, assults, etc. I guess it's worth highlighting the fact that there isn't any money to be collected that way. I've seen them write out a ticket for a car idling for a minute in a police parking spot to drop a few people off on a busy Friday night near a mall. What's my problem with them? These guys are never around when you need them and always show up uninvited when you don't.
