Just had the new 3.9's diff gears installed but was told to take it easy for the first 300k's so haven't given it a bootful yet. My initial reaction is (difference but not as much as I expected). Anyone had the same reaction. Haven't done speedo yet @ 100kph reads approx 112kph, does that sound about right?

Yep found the same thing with the speedo reading Chook. Wait until you've had a chance to run the gears in, then see what you think when you boot it in 1st gear. Combined with edit or tuning the 3.91's/tune tie in well together.

Best part I found is that 6th is now a usable gear at 100 & not just a numerical decoration on the gearknob.

How are you going to get the speedo re-adjusted through edit or tech2?

Probably get the speedo done through edit if I can. I'm sure once I run the gears in a bit it will feel better, Haven't been over 100k's yet.

Agreed. Once you can "DRIVE ;) " it again you'll notice more of a difference. Usually called 2 black lines :D

If you need a quick fix presuming you're SS hasn't been edited/tuned yet (apologies if wrong) your new speedo ppk number can be worked out this way:

OLD PPK / CURRENT DIFF RATIO x NEW DIFF RATIO= NEW PPK

Be patient, the fun is coming ! ;)

Yep, must admit when I had mine changed I didn't notice as much difference as I expected - until I got it tuned!

I reckon it's partly a psychological thing too, because you can't really see what speed you're doing....

Ill keep that in mind when i get mine installed. Althought it must be the whole "Better than a LS1" because i use 6th from 80 onwards already with 3.46 :stick:

Actually has been edited but as mentioned , haven't driven it properly, I'm sure once I get over 3k I'm going to notice it a bit more, perhaps I'm just getting used to the edit these days. As the old saying goes it's never enough.

I found that it is actually about 20 km difference.
If you are doing 100 you are actually going 80.
I also wasn't very impressed with mine then I went to get the Speedo adjusted and being green at that time didn't know about the edit.I asked what else I can do and he said not much with a V6 ...I said its the V8 and his eyes lit up...needless to say after an hour or so the car was totally different to drive with the edit and gears.
I only gave my diff gears 200 km before giving it a thrashing. They must have coped a hiding on the rollers as they did about 7 power runs when editing.
I use synthetic diff oil every 10 k also.
Even from new I changed at 1 k then 5 ,then every 10.

I too didnt notice a great deal, although 2nd's are easier to pull.

for me, its the mentallity of reading a speedo that is off by around 20kph. Gonna have to book it into sams when i have time for an edit.

Chook
gear change makes car far more driveable.

Speedo will be out about 13%, new PPK is 7129 if having Dealer reset via Tech2, otherwise Edit will fix.

cheers
