Had some moron run a red light today and i ended up T-Boning the other car. No-one has been hurt but id estimate close to $10k worth of damage to the GTS!!!

Guess that means no cruise tomorrow.

Did he admit it, or do you have witnesses? I'd hate to see the other driver claim it was you who went through the redlight.

I almost got cleaned up by a red-light runner a few weeks ago. Only difference is, if I didn't see him, he would've T-boned me (and he was doing about 90 in a 60 zone). Luckily I just decided to look to my right for some reason.

Terrible ..... :( Never good to see a nice ride with battle scars.

Based on the amount of damage to the other vehicle, it looks like you weren't going very quick yet (just took off from lights?) so it could have been a lot worse I guess if you went through the intersection at speed.

I owe the lack of damage to quick reflexes and ABS. I guestimate i would have hit at between 20-30Km/h.

I was coming down the hill into the intersection when said moron ran the red light to my left and entered the intersection in front of me. I just about put the brake peddel through the firewall trying to stop in time!!!

Sad sight when you see a clean untouched car damaged like that.

Probably $5-6k in damage depending on if rims damaged and any suspension.
Those front bars genuine new are like $800

Sorry to see the pride and joy damaged mate, especially after the running around you've probably done just to get the thing registered in NSW. Good to see he was man enough to admit he was in the wrong. It seems lately there are an alarming amount of people running the red, well, from what I've seen anyway...Anyway mate look forward to seeing the beast back on it's feet soon.

Is the damage just the bumper and front quarters and bonnet or is it worse inside the engine bay?
I don'y know of anyone who's had such a run of misfortune as you with a car.
I think I should lend you my rabbits paw, red undies, lucky penny, and 4 leaf clover.
I hope you make it in time for the skidpan day.

Cant tell as i wasnt going to open the bonnet for obvious reasons. Possibly new radiator, A/c condensor, etc.

Engine bay will have to be rejigged into shape, also will have to check that the chasis isnt bent at all, as the gaps on the passanger side between front & back doors has increased to the point where my thumb will fit in the gap!

It's sad to see what happened to your GTS, and I can tell you love that thing, but you've got to focus on the most important thing to come out of a really shitty day... you're in one piece. Cars come and go and there will be many more skid pan days. If you were lying in hospital right now nobody would be thinking about the car. I hope it all works out for you.

Hi Ryzz,

That really sux when some other moron runs a red and cleans up a nice car like that. Was that outside the Court in Parramatta? I nearly hit a lady there who was also running the red a few months ago.

Hope it all gets sorted out without any fuss.

Good luck with the repair, just have to be extra vigilant with the amount of idiots on the road and look left, look right, even when its green ahead.

Id say alot of us are having a poor 05 so far, when you have family members or friends perish, have your home and every item you own demolished by a tsunami, and left with disease, no water, electricity or food, every other problem becomes miniscule.

Hate to see that happen to a nice car.
Make sure when they fix (or before) that you tell them about any Gts maf pipe and air filter if K&N if you have them or any expensive aftermarket parts.
Also if hoses torn and leaking it was obvious you had synthetic fluid and oil in it.

Guys & Gals,

Thanks for all the positive feedback, as im sure you can imagine im pretty devistated at the moment and its only just starting to sink in whats happened. At the end of the day, the most important thing here is that no-one was hurt.

Replaying the accident in my mind, i can see how lucky i am that the cars hit where they did. A couple of millisecons either way and it would of been at the front or the back of the car and could have resulted in the cars being spun and a lot lot more damage.

I wont know much until tuesday when i can get the panel shop to look at it and work out whats go to happen. Considering the previous condition of the car, ill make sure that every minor scratch related to this incident will be sorted out. Im also going to get a few other things fixed up while its in the panel shop as its much cheaper than getting it done seperately.

Also those who have asked, the accident was outside the court house at Parramatta, which meant i was able to walk up to the cop shop and get someone onscene within 5 minutes of the accident.

Credit also goes to the Towie for being a champion. When putting the car on the tilt tray, he made sure nothing scraped anywhere and went out of his way to make sure it went on without doing any more damage to the car. I dare say treating it as though it was his own.

I will keep you all posted on what happens when i have an update. With a bit of luck the car should come out better than before the accident and be looking a million dollars once again.

Good to see all is fine, my cousin had a big prang as well New Years Eve, some Mum yelling at her kids not watching the road, smacked here in the rear, she had the wheels locked turned ready to take a right and as she got hit and the wheels pointing right its put her on the other side of the road and got collected in the front as well.

At least u guys and her and her sister were all able to walk away with only minor bruising.

Cars can be and will be fixed

BTW what shops repairing ur GTS?

Doesn't look too bad, you hit him pretty square which will limit any bending. The shell of these things is pretty solid. If the airbags didn't go off you were doing under 30 k's, which is what damage to both cars looks like.

My mate's VXSS had similar but worse damage (45km/h, airbags went off). If the airbags go off, they're a couple G's each and he had to wait for a new dashpad. After everything was unbolted off the front it was a simple fix - basically bolt on new everything in front of the wheels. His front panels look good -the paintshop faded the red paint into the doors and it's virtually undetectable. I've seen new cars with worse paint matching.

Hope your VIN plate is OK - Holden don't sell new ones. Almost worth having it rivetted to the firewall.

Still want to go and thump the guy that did it for all the frustration & heart ache he caused by "not paying attention".

Im planning on getting a lot of touch up work done to her while she is in the shop so she will look even better than before she went in (before the smash). I dare say almost better than new, so i guess there is an upside to it.

Girl in a nissan pintara speeding along on green P's. get to the lights at sutho was at the front next to her, she took off like a rocket! i thought hang on your kidding, looked up the road next set of lights were red just 200 mtrs away. so i thought stuff it and drove at granny pace thinking she would have to stop in a sec, nope straight through the next red light. which was red before the prevoius set went green, doh...

This is a VXII SS, I am probably confusing you - I don't mean the aluminium VIN ID tag visible in the cutout on the windshield glass. I mean the plate which carries build date, model, paint and int. code etc as well as the VIN number on the radiator support near the air intake. It is, strictly speaking, not necessary or a legal requirement to have it on the car, as it is stamped on the chassis, but if missing or damaged it screams 'accident' repair.

Well the panel beaters have finally opened. The cars been dropped down and they have gone over it with a fine tooth comb.

As suspected, basically the whole front end is going to have to be replaced. I believe the total bill is around the $7k mark

While she's in the shop im getting everything else cosmetic that needs to be fixed up done. Gonna cost me close to $1200 but i figure it will look a million dollars when it comes out.

The only down side is that its taken the assessors 3 days to get out and look at it. So they will start work on her tomorrow. However this means ill be lucky to have her back by next weekend, which also means i wont have time to get my new diff intime for the private WSID day.

Will post up some pics of work in progress if i get a chance to go down and see her getting fixed up.

Im dying to get her back on the road, its no fun driving a "car" when i had something so much fun!!!

Make sure you pop down and have a look at the progress, make sure all your windows etc are up the whole time and all care is taken, you dont want all the dust and crap to float through and deposit a nice new gritty grimey film all over your setas. You'd be surprise what goes on when your car is at the panel beaters, no matter how much you trust them.

Hope it all goes well.

D

I can't speak for all shops, but in a panler shop, you can have the windows up but when a car is there for 1-2 weeks its full of dust, so we do what the other 99.9% of panel shops do and detail cars when they have had there final touches applied, its usually the day or day before it leaves the shop.
It's common sense, the car is going to get dirty/dusty so you clean it for the customer.

As for popping down and having a look at progress every few days, sure thats fine, but you will be branded a "WANKER", its different if its a resto and the cars there for months, but popping in and out of shops to see how a front ender is coming along, man you gotta be in love with your wheels to do that.

My suggestion is based on experience and a little bit of consideration, like keeping the window tightly shut, can save the effort of cleaning for the owner when they get the car back. I agree panel shops usually present the repaired car to the owner after a clean up but the owner is usually so keen to get the car back they overlook the detail. The next weekend they wash and dry the car and clean the interior then find the detail stuff like residue of material on the paint and dust in hard to clean places, like the air vents. I was just suggesting prevention with a little bit of effort is better than cure.

In this case the owner 'Ryzz' is an enthusiast, like me, who has a fairly unique car that is well cared for. Maybe don't visit every second day as I only mentioned to pop in, but it is worth establishing early in the repair that you care about the quality of work and try and make a positive connection with the guys at the shop. Don't go in there and make veiled threats if the work it not up to standard just show you care, but show you are interested in how the guys do there work and how much you love your car.

Insinuating "Wanker" and "As for popping down and having a look at progress every few days" in your words........ thats fine if your frequently dropping in and making a nauseants out of your self but that WASN'T what I was on about and you have totally tanken it out of context.

Im pretty sure myself and many others wouldn't think Ryzz is a "wanker" for going down and taking a few photos and seeing how its all going along. I see no harm in that.

I just keep thinking of the end result!!

But see its human nature, if you tell someone to be careful with your possessions chances are after saying that they will go rough on it, where at first if nothing was said they would go about business normally.

I had 1 guy so obsessed with his heap of shit car, he thought I was going to take it out cruising (without interior or a front windscreen) he went to the point of taking the number plates with him. Needless to say it developed an automatic choke on start-up (can you say 5000rpm warm up).

Well the car is 99% finished. Went down this afternoon watching them put the final coat of paint on her. Looks better than new :D

Everything cosmetic that needed doing has been done. Ran into a few suprises along the way though. Someone had glued the rear spoiler down with polyurethane so it was a bitch of a job to get that off (3hrs with 2 guys!!).

I feel like a kid on xmas eve. Cant wait to get her back, and go driving again!!! Needless to say ill be driving all weekend!!!! Will post up some pics all cleaned up once i get her back!

Not sure. The panel beaters used some wire to slide between the boot and the spoiler to get it off. They seemed to think that it was not normal HSV procedure.

F**kin idiot camry, they should get them all off the road.At least the car can be fixed.i had my vl stolen years ago and the only reason i got the car back is because the guy hit a car through a intersection and the power steer belt fell off so the parked it and was found 2 days later , so i now how feel. Just look forward to the feeling of driving it again.

Ok guys, im slack i havnt had taken any photos yet, been to busy driving!!!! I managed to do a tank of juice in 24Hrs :D

A very very big thanks goes to the crew at Brookvale Body Repairs, never in my wildest dreams did i expect the car to come back looking as good as it did. The paintwork and panel fit is second to none.

So thanks again guys, youve left me a happy man!!! :D

I am glad to hear a good result has been achieved in the repairs department. It is even more pleasing to hear that a person is happy after panel replacement and paint work has been carried out. In alot of cases ppl have been very disapointed in the result of paint and panel work.

Now Rhzz all you need to do is get that group a manifold and she will really become a beast.

Good news - I'm glad you are happy with the work and have got the car back. Sorry to appear to be a bit negative earlier in this thread, but I've seen cars of this age with similar amounts of damage written off... including my best mate's schmicko VS Berlina V8..

Seems to tighten up the front end a lot under heavy corner, and possibly turns in a little quicker.

Al in all cant complain about it, seems pretty good!!
