Hi everyone I'm new here and I absolutly love this site.
I'm looking at getting a 308 holden commodore Berlina off a relative of mine for $3000 plus my wagon. I done an oil change on it a few weeks ago and cleaned out the throttle body and it had a fair amount of oil in there which made me think it was up for a rebuild or atleast the rings done anyway. I was wondering if anyone knew what I'd be in for $$$$ wise if I did decide to buy it.
Thanks in advance. :)

it still drives brilliantly, even better since I cleaned out the throttle body, The owner was rather impressed at the change. I love the sound of it reminds me of the manual calais I use to own which I regretted selling.
My Brother reckons I shouldn't buy it, but he's a ford freak.

How many km/miles?
it's hard to say how many kms it's done as the speedo hasn't been working since she's had it which is 4 yrs, but it still goes really well and doesn't seem to break down or anything when given stick.

bite me , you probably see a red VR SS driving around Margs.
That used to be mine . When I sold that it had done about 215 000k.
Id given it a right old thrashing for 5 years ( no skids or anything though ) and then sold it to the bloke who probably gives it a bigger hiding than I ever did. In all that time it used only a smidgeon of oil,and was never rattlely. A few weeks ago I caught up with the bloke and hed just spent a couple of months driving it up around Broome and Port Hedland and was getting 600k out of a tank...better than I ever did.
Seriously if it isnt blowing smoke and driving great then why bother :)

if he's name is brody my hubby use to work with him , I love that car I wouldn't mind buying it meself but cant afford that much, he was sayin he might be selling it as he needs a ute to take his bikes out riding. I had a 308 manual calais 89 and I could get from Busso to Perth and back on $50 it was pretty good on fuel didn't blow any smoke at all.
With this car I'm lookin at I dont think it blows much smoke but I'll give it a good goin over before I decide what to do.

rebuild kits start at about 450 up to 1500 + install fees .... add about $20 per cyclinder for honing, another 150 - 200 fur blueprinting ...

good luck

yeah he's christained many of the roads down here but atleast he treats it like a V8 and not pussy foot about with it, it's sad to see V8's go to oldies and not do anything, that can really ruin them. He doesn't go too sick in it but not like many young guys that own them they totally thrash the shit outa them. I've asked him many times if he wants me to show him how to drive it but he doesn't want me to ;) oh well I can only dream. hopefully I'll have me own soon.
