the strangest things come from drinking sessions
my bro just had a new BA given to him by work (co car)
and ya know sitting around having a drink talking new cars
and we came across some interesting stuff....

Holden always (exc dual outlet stuff) have their exhaust outlets on the kerb or passenger side
going back to even very early Holden (EH and my first car- a HR for example)
and they always have their fuel fillers on the drivers side
(which makes sense when you think about it)

and for some reason
Ford are the reverse(!)

now I know years ago there were some corporate policies in place ( for example, the engineering related accelerator policy..which btw meant you could NEVER heel'n'toe
in a Monaro or Torana) and I understand the safety policies with power window switches..
but I am curious
about the exhaust and fuel filler placement....

any comments?

VXIISSM6er - Why change a good thing? There would be no incentive to spend time redesigning the system to fill on the other side just for the hell of it. Hope this simple answer hits the spot. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

its a good thing then you don't have everyone cueing up for pumps on the same side. would be a pia if holden and fords had them on the same side.

I'd also state that it would heelp with queues at the local petrol station. With the number of Fords/Holdens sold each year, imagine waiting almost twice as long for petrol when you're caps are on the same side or be prepared to do the bowser dance to align the pump up with your cap.

And would exhaust location be dictated by petrol tank positioning as well?

Cheers,
Steve

agree
but you have changed things........!

why NO Holden badge on VX VY or VZ...
we have always had a badge somewhere
that said 'HOLDEN' (from 48-215 to even a subtle one on VT)

what gives...? :)

Why bother with a Holden badge when everyone immediately identifies the "lion playing with a beach ball" as the Holden badge.

Ditto with Ford although their badge actually has the "Ford" name.

MavSS has kind of given the answer ... brand images evolve over time and the recognition of the "Lion rolling the ball" has reached a point where we don't need another badge saying "I'm a Holden". It's not an uncommon evolution for marques on all sorts of things, not just cars.

It would be silly to suggest we've never changed anything - re the fuel filler, it was simply to point out that the cost/benefit perspective of making such a change would be heavily weighted towards cost.

Not all holdens have had the fillers on the drivers side. All toranas had the filler at the rear of the car, and all the HQ/J/X/Z had them at the rear behind the number plate. Just thought i would point that out

has holden ever thought of put the filler back in the back of the car that way it doesn't matter what side you pull up to at a servo?

Would it be a safe guess you'd want us thinking about plenty of other things before that?

I remember the first time I went to fill up the V8 Torana I bought when I was a lad and couldn't find the filler cap. After a few embarassing minutes I found it hidden behind the number plate. :)
