Why? He started off driving fords anyway.
No loss to Holden.

Any of the top contenders switching to the dark side is a loss. There doesn't seem to be many top Ford guys switching to the Holden side.

I still blame Lowndes for all this. ;)

I think if one more Holden driver goes to Ford, I can see a real big change in the sport coming. Ford.... well SBR is now the dominating force in the series. If we loose another high profile driver Holden will be in trouble. Where is the loyalty these days? Seems everyone (well most) is just chasing $$$.

Clearly Holden did not see Jason Bright as a good enough investment to justify a six figure amount or to make a deal that would benefit both parties. Now FPR is here they will throw never before seen sums of money to get anyone to drive for them. It's actually starting to make me ill.

I agree. Ford are reportedly paying upto $1M for Lowndes, Ingall, Ambrose and now Bright. 3 of the 4 came from Holden drives. It's can't continue as costs will keep climbing through the roof, sponsers are already walking away.

Holden have invested in the cars and teams rather than the driver and have often stated that they will not play $ games with Ford over drivers. Good on them, but will it come at a cost over the next few years when other Ford team may start to fire?

The drivers swapping between makes and project blueprint has taken some of the tribalism out the sport which is what the popularity of the sport is built on. There are contrived compulsary pit stops and a point system that no-one likes or understands. It's still a great spectacle but I don't like where it is headed. Jason is just the latest to test loyalty of the fans.

Holden probably werent too fussed about Bright leaving, sure he is a bloody great driver, but who can forget his first podium speach for HRT when he thanked Ford for giving him such a great car???!!!!!
Holden desperatley needs a modern era "Brock"; which Lowndes was becoming before he left - someone with personality, popularity & who wins races - a cult hero. Bright didnt really have the personality for this, and thats probably why Holden didnt put up huge $$$$$ to keep him.
Skaife is a great driver, but he doesnt really have the personality factor required to be the hero they need.

Yeah really Lowndes is now just another driver (who doesnt win).
He used to be all that you described, he says he burnt Holden bad and can never go back, but as we see now drivers are just jumping brands like there changing undies these days.
I like the guy, but he will have to come to the realization that he is better off wth a Holden team. Maybe it will sink in if he has a bad run with 888.

Anyone know how long the contract with 888 is for? Has he resigned with Ford for 2006 and beyond? Heck we could see him driving for a Holden team in QLD if he wants to stay close to his family so bad. Cross fingers.

As good as the pay packet is for Brighty I think the opportunity of a funded race team was too good to pass up. Brighty wanted to start his own team and Ford gave him the opportunity.

As for Ingall regardless of what he was paid to jump ship, could you really see anyone passing up the opportunity of driving an SBR Ford?

As for Lowndes, reports suggest that he was not treated well by Holden and he was just not happy driving for HRT. Seriously tho, when you are clearly the number 1 driver at HRT but are treated as number 2 because Mark Skaife is there, how could you be expected to accept that.

Thats my oppinions on the subject anyway.

Lowndes left HRT because of his desire to have a greater personal share of product sold with his name/number etc. It had nothing to do with either the on-track performance or off track relationship within the team. It was purely about what Craig saw as his potential to earn money based on his profile. With the way the world has changed around this in the past few years it is unlikely that if the same situation occurred today it would not be resolved without the driver leaving the team.
