Hi guys I was wondering if I could get some advice here.

I have a VS commo, V6. I was looking into maybe S/Cing it in the future. The engine has been reconditioned before and says that it can handle "mild mods."
So basically the engine is like brand new but has already been run it etc (done over 30K since getting it).
My question is can I get it S/Ced or should I just replace the Ecotec V6 for a SC V6 altogether?

Also what other mods must be done to the stock commo before the SC goes in, apart from LSD and bigger wheels.

Cheers!

What type of supercharging you looking at?
PD like the factory eaton, or a vortech setup?

Have a look at http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/499501 to see what forum member Connolly has done with a VT V6.

Thanks mate, probably a factory one, just want a bit extra out of the V6.

Thats a nice set up in that link!

IMO a turbo or 2 would work far better than any centrifugal blower when you have that kinda capacity... torque would be through the roof, rather than just the extra mid/top end a centrifugal would provide

or a PD blower, but good ones arnt cheap... and it wouldnt be worth the effort putting a stock ecotech blower on... wouldnt cost a hell of a lot more to get a wild setup going, especially since your engine is fresh enough to hold up

on that note...

look how linear that boost curve is! yargh... dosnt get to the max 12psi till the redline .... where as a turbo would probably hit full boost by 2000-2500rpm and hold it to the redline

One of the speed shops in Adelaide has built and tuned a twin turbo VS Ecotoec and the results were VERY impressive for a stock engined car.

If you are SERIOUS about doing this then PM me and I'll pass on the Tuners details to you.........

You would have to change the complete engine, exhaust and computer, as pistons, camshaft, heads, pulley setup, manifold etc are all different on the factory setup. If you want to keep it realistic, and not totally over the top as some may suggest, either get a complete driveline from a wreck, or trade the car...

Better off buying a wrecked car with the factory Supercharged V6 as it is much stonger than a N/A ecotec. You could do what planetdavo said but it still wouldn't be as strong and probably cost you more.

Ninetysix isn't to far of the mark with the blower vs cam debate, I guess there are pros and cons for either setup. I believe my vortech setup would get the jump on a turbo but would be slowly realed in. Yes down low it doesn't have the boost, but it also doesnt have the lag. I drop the clutch at just under 3k and if I take it to redline and shift it drops back to around 4500-4600rpm. I also brings on the power very smoothy allowing for a good take off not frying the tyres in an instant.

There are tons of guys on the street commodores forum doing turbo setups for the V6's and getting great results. One guy called Dwilz has a turbo setup that just ran a 10.7 the other day. It may be of benifit to go over there and have a look around for more info.

I am now building a new engine for my ride, she ended up giving up on just under 100,000 kms with the blower and a hard life. My new engine is being built with moly coated 8.0:1 diamond forged pistons and L32 rods. Also I am fitting a rollermaster twin timing set with a new agressive grind cam, 130lb valve springs with titanium retainers, compcams lifters, lightweight pushrods, stainless valves, intense 3rd generation 1.6 adjustable rockers, ARP bolts and a ATI performance damper. The heads have been extensively worked and the boost will be getting bumped up to 20psi.

I picked up all the bits from a mob called intense in the states who have some of the best gear for the L36 (ecotech) and the L67 (supercharged ecotech) around. If you have a look at their turbo project car on their site, with their help selecting parts I am building a near identicle engine to that.

We are expecting it to rev to 7500rpm smooth as and have 600+rwhp. If you keep an eye on my webpage I will update the results in the next couple of weeks.
