Has anyone ever had trouble with the discs warping on there VY commodore?
I have only done about 43,000kms in my SS and have a pretty violent shudder through the wheel when i brake.

Would this be a warrenty issue? If so would they just machine them, or put new discs on?

Thanks
Simon

Do a search on this,

Someone put in a good link about this "myth" and I can't remember who it was; maybe someone else can help me out here and remember the poster.

Hey

Iv been driving a VY s2 Executive over the weekend with 27000 k's. It had terrible shudder under brakes. I think i has happened to most of ours as well. I think they just get the disks machined. I know i can happen if you ride the brakes for a long time, such as going down a mountain. Hope it helps! :D

AWD_62L,

Overheating the brakes on a car by what you mention doesn't cause them to warp.

Found the link, have a read:-

Yep. Warranty covers this. Bring it up with your dealer.

Just a note that if your brake pedal is shuddering, it may be that your rear disks are out of alignment in which case, your disks won't need machining.

Thankyou for that. The vibration is just through the steering wheel under brakes. I will have to get on to Holden about that!!

While i am on here, i may as well ask, i went to change my avatar picture in the user CP, now it wont let me put another one there. Whats the deal with that?

Yep,

Front left disc on the clubby shuddered in the first 10,000 ks.

Took it back to holden, problem fixed under warranty.....so it should be!!

 Aren't they held on by the wheel? Short of a bent axle, how could they move out of alignment?

They machined mine at 25K and I have the perfromance brake package on my VXII Clubby. I tried to get new discs but they said if it happens again then they will replace them. Just dropped my car off at the dealer for the GM to listen for piston slap when cold first thing in the morning. Waiting to hear back from them tommorrow if I get a rebuild? :bounce:

I had this problem and both rear discs were replaced under warranty :)

Had this problem with the previous VX R8 at 40k. Happened going down a steep mountain pass with 25-40km corners. Tested the brakes once down, on a strait stretch of road, and no shudder.
Both front discs, and pads all round, replaced under warranty.

Make them put new pads on aswell - I did, they didnt want to at first, but your pads are prolly stuffed as a result of the warping. Also, insist on new rotors, I believe that that is the fix that GM have advised the dealers, the problem has been happening for ages

Last time I had the car worked on the dealer replaced the discs under warranty, as that was holdens new fix...no more machining first

VY Cluuby developed shudder at about 10k .. first option was to machine the fronts only .. .. problem arose again after about 5k .. replaced all 4 rotors under warranty ..20k on and no further problems

which is probably why they now change them instead of machining...machining is a short term solution....
