Hey all
Id just like to get some advice or find out if im getting what im paying for.
I am really keen on a VL commy.
Iv had the paintjob valued and it cost 6k for a custom greenish paintjob and looks bloody nice. Its got a set of real tidy 18in VY SS Rims with a hsv badge in the middle.Super low springs and looks nice n dropped. The car from the outside is pretty much perfect and the engine is pretty well stock except for extractors new injectors, and new crank angle sensor.
The asking price is $7,500 the reason i am interested is because it would probably sell for a lot more but its a best mate of a mate so im confident everything is A1 - also just came from the pits 2 weeks ago and passed everything. Good deal????? Advice cons n pro's? anything? THANKS!

I have too agree with NinetySix,i had a VL turbo Calais for 4 years and it was a great car but unless the one you are looking at is a bit of a hotty turbo i would give it a miss(the atmo,s you could outrun on foot)

$7500 for a n/a VL is a ripoff, doesn't matter what mods it has. Unless it had $6000 wheels. That sort of money would get you a turbo Calais wouldn't it? Or at the very least an immac n/a Calais...

$7.5k will get you into a VR/VS. Unless the VL is a turbo, fuggetabouit. Apart from the engine (if its a six) the VL was a very ordinary car even when new.

I would suggest looking at the price and condition of similiar cars. Then make an evaluation from there. The Nissan 6 is a great motor, if it is a turbo you will pay more for insurance.

You could get something 10 years newer for that price.
$7.5k is a lot of money. VL's are nice but they aren't going up in value. The older VL's are now 20 year old cars.
If its a Auto N/A VL best bet would be walk away, there are heaps of those. If its a manual, maybe, turbo maybe.. Still stacks of money for a oldy.. You could get a VT or a AU for around simular money and 15+ years newer.. ABS, better technology.

For $7500 it would have to have gold plated rims, Gold plated interior etc. If you insist on a vl,dont pay any more than $2000 - $3000, my sister in law HAD to have a vl, now she knows why I said dont do it. They are nearly 20 years old & most have had the guts flogged outta them. She paid $3000, told her not to, response :" yeh but its got mags & a cool stereo". 18 months later, it has been broken into 3 times, with an alarm, that doesnt bother thiefs, plus her insurance costs more than my VU!!!!!!!!
DONT DO IT!!!!!!!

Sounds like you had a friday built car then unfortuantly it happens like a mate of mine buying a BA XLS ute for work it was a total POS and he traded it in for a Hilux. But all car companies pump out duds at times.
