Did anyone else read the short article in the latest Motor Mag about Holden introducing the GMC Brand here? Anyone know what product is lined up, and when?
So far now they got Dodge, Acura, Cadillac and GMC brands coming here...i wonder what else?

I read that. Holden registered the GMC name. That want a big 4x4 to bring into the aussie market.

Dodge is owned by DamilerChrysler though, and Acura is owned by honda isnt it?

Might have something to do with the new free trade agreement? Either way it sounds sweet to me. :)

I'd say so ... one of the reasons the Chevy Suburban failed here was because of it RIDICULOUSLY high price.
I quite like the looks of the GMC and Dodge "trucks". Will be interesting to see what price they are when landed.

It will be very interesting to see what the prices are,

I been having a look over @ Fords website in the US for new F-trucks.
The Top of the range F350 superduty duelly,4wd Harley-davidson verson (i.e all plush leather, 4 arm chair seats) 20000ib/9000 pay load capasity,

$38000 US $$ - So in Aus $ including $5K shipping would be about $55-60k

Yet ford charge $68k for there base model 2wd single cab F250,

Hopefully the free trade agreement sorted some of that stuff out

By using the GMC brand, GM can sell large dopey American SUVs here in Australia without damaging the Holden brand image. The brand name 'Trailblazer' has recently been registered in New Zealand, so it's only a matter of time before it comes here, as a GMC or maybe a Holden.

Or could it be General Motors Cadillac?

There's been alot of talk and confirmation of the Cadi's coming to Oz but not big heavy, fuel guzzling "SUV"s.

Just a thought.

I doubt it. If Holden have any sense, they'd want to separate the Cadi and GM brands. People buy Cadis because they are somewhat exotic, GM Saturns and Holdens (sorry guys) aren't.

Does anyone like the chance that this will be imported, I wish!!!

It is so . What would the 500hp convert to in kw'erage? 0 - 60mph in 5 seconds.

If they decide to bring the GMC products here I think some people will have to rethink how they design some of the carparks.

Some of the ones i have been in recently would be tight for a mini yet alone a full sized ute.

Thats true I suppose why Fords is the same with the Lincoln and Mercury because Ford sounds as exotic as dirty old socks with holes in them.

Acura is Honda just the yanks wanted a classy name for it. Bit like Lexus and Toyota same company under different badges to enhance their image.

That's why Lincolns only sell to limo companies and Mercurys err don't sell at all. ;)

Yep Acura is US offsider of Honda

Infiniti (nissans offsider) failed here too (probably the high price again)

GMC is already over here & has been for some time. The NSW Ambulance Service are using GMC's, and have been for ages

From this article today in the Daily Telegraph drive section, it looks like we will be getting more than just the GMC brand over here. It also states that Australia will be the hub for design/development of rear wheel drive cars for GM world-wide.

"All next-generation GM products will be built in both left and right-hand-drive and as part of GM's globalisation plans, Holden will become the home of rear-wheel-drive development for the entire group......It will make GM more flexible, efficient and productive. The move means Australia will have access to all GM brand names including Pontiac, Buick and Chevrolet...."

But they're only just ambulances and must be brought over privately. The fact that the name is registered here would indicate that there is going to be a full scale attack with GMC dealers...etc

Great, bring it on.
I hope they sell well and reduce the amount of boring Toyotas and other boring Japanese cars on our roads. Imagine the cardigan wearing Camry drivers seeing a Hummer coming up behind them on their way to bowls :D

The free trade agreement is with America and not Brazil were Ford Australia
source their right-hand-drive F-series trucks. I don't think you'll see cheaper F-series, but lets hope Holden bring on the Chevy Silverado's or GMC Sierra's though.

I own both a Pontiac GTO (Monaro) and GMC Yukon Denali. My wife drives the Denali which is the family bus/tank. For family road trips it's the best vehicle I have ever owned. Confortable, roomy, DVD in back for the kids and crusies at 75mph at about 2.5K rpms. It also has a great exhaust note.

Its like driving your living room around if it had AWD & a 6.0L V-8. But I think my living room would get better gas mileage.

We are getting about 12.4mpg on average for the Yukon.

You probably did, there is a company at Rowville in Melbourne that import all the Chevy and GMC pick-ups, and other SUV's.

Go to http://www.american.com.au/

Also a company in Gympie in Queensland do the same.
