Hey guys,

I'm looking to buy either an early model VG- VS Maloo or other earlier model 5 litre ute VG - VS

I've tried to find some helpful reviews as I've heard you need to watch out for gearbox trouble in these models, but havent come up with much... can anyone suggest things that I should look out for? and also, what should I be looking to pay for something in reasonable condition?

Cheers,

Paul.

Go here www.proutes.com and you will find a heap of owners with the same type of ute that will have the info you need. As a general rule of thumb with auto's provided the gearbox has not been abused or used for towing you will see well over 200,000 klm before any problems start. Rebuilds or strengthening are not cheap; they can range from $2,000 to $3,000.

Thanks Mongy,

BTW forgot to mention, I'd be looking for a 5 speed manual.

Cool, no worries, might be a bit harder to find though. Same thing with the 5 speed, a lot of it depends on how it was treated by the previous owner.
