It appears that I can't sell my lonely bottle of Grange on ebay without some kind of liquor license.

Does anybody know how I can get rid of it without to much stuffing around? I could try the Melbourne Trading Post, but I suspect I'd have the same problem.

Obviously I want to get as much as I can and don't want to get ripped off. I have seen prices range from between $200 and $500. The average seems to be about $380-$400.

Any help would be real appreciated.

Jeff.

jneil,
Might be interested, are the label and capsule in good condition? How have you stored it?
Good buys can be had for sub $200 from auction sites if the presentation or enclosure is imperfect.
Cheers,
Phil

The secondary market for a single bottle of grange will vary. You can sell it at Langtons, OddBins or via private wine storage companies like Liquid Assests in North Melbourne. It will depend greatly on the cork quality, storage conditions, bottle and label condition and finally how much of the angels share there is.

If it has been home cellared and comes without a certificate of storage then you can halve its current auction value straight away, especially being a 25 year old wine. Penfolds even offers re-corking and topping up of old bottles of grange to maintain secondary value.

The even years tend to be better than odd years. Weird, but thats just how they turn out.

My 2003 gold book shows a pristine example cellared from day one sells for $460. Its drinking now and the vintage year was rated 5 out of 7. If it hasn't been stored in a temperature and humidity controlled environment there is a good chance its past it. Sad but true.

So you should be looking at the $200 mark if home cellared or if stored remotely and guaranteed $300-$400. Thats what its worth.

Here's a thought. If there are any wine appreciators out there we could organise a dinner at a good steakhouse and share it around. I'll bring something too.

Cheers

My '81 just keeps gathering dust looking for a good excuse to drink it. Or sell.
