The first round of the HSV owners club 2005 season is this Sunday at Sandown and with a fine weather forecast it should be a great day.
Any forum members entered or going along for a look?

Running the R8 only on Sunday,I've been invited to take the Perkins car to the Clipsal 500 as part of their 20th anniversary of the Adelaide street circuit which will include parade laps on the Sat & Sun so I will be keeping it in mothballs until then, maybe bring it out for the HSV nationals in April

The on track action starts about 9.30 and entry is via Sandown rd. off Sringvale rd.There will most likely be security at the pit paddock,so just let him know you are there for the HSV sprint day and you will get thru no worries.
Please remember that the day is run by the club and it is getting harder and harder to secure bookings at the tracks for these days so please arrive and depart in an orderly manner as any misbehaviour reflects directly on the club and their ability to run future days.

What a day ..... :D

Well done HSV Car Club of Victoria, yet another well run event. :)

The day was sensational weather, cool morning with a little warmth in the arvo. Seemed a bit 'skidish' early with the track feeling a tad greasy. Maybe the 'mind' over the conditions, but been away for a few months reminds the nerves of circut fun.

You tend to hit the brakes a tad early and ease out of the corners for the first run in a while, but the feel soon came back with some strong lap times late in the day. Personaly I have trimmed the Sandown time from a 1.26.05 to a fairly respectable 1.25.13. By far not the quickest, "White Lightning" has set the new lap measure for the 'adrenalin' group.

CALEYS with her 6 deg of camber and the new strut brace worked well, she bit into the corners with ease, I wound up the shocks late in the day, this made a big difference in the feel for the track.

All parties involved on the day would have to be rapped with the days proceedings ..... especially "White Lightning". :p Well done again the HSV Club. :D

Now if any one has issue with the lap times ....... talk to someone who cares. ;) Im no race driver, and I drove home one straight LS1, which is what the day is all about, fun and getting home safe.

Cheers,

Dane

It was pretty good from a spectator point of view too.

It flowed very well (apart from a few minor delays) and was a credit to the organisers/marshalls.

Well done to all the drivers too, not much to look at without them!

Jeff.

i must agree dane the most important thing is to have fun and have a straight car at the end of the day , i myself could only manage '25 s with the clutch deciding to start to slip on the second lap of the warm up sesion , so i nursed the car for the rest of the day , until the multi sprints where on the second lap of that the water pump belt parted company and i had to withdraw

Just a bit peesssed off after breaking the blower drive shaft in the warm up session.
Spent a sh#t load of time and money in the last six months preparing the car for this years HSV sprint series only to have the car fail in the warm up
As they say 'thats racing' but i'm starting to wonder if the blower is more trouble than it's worth in a racing application?

maybe sell the blower kit and build a decent stroker motor , depends what you are wanting in the car , a street or circuit race car

.... Not sure what the list of 'faults' that have come up on your setup , but I found the 2.3 with a 8pk pullie to have relative no issue. Yes have had motor related issues but no ness. directly related to the s/c (other than a fault in the water to air cooler).

I couldn't believe it when ya showed me the blower drive, I can only hope that the fatigue was a 'one' off issue, I'll certainly be having starr check mine out to be sure to be sure. Never the less ........ Ya PD sounds sensational on the track and ya ride has got the goodies, I hope all is sorted and next meet we have a event free day. :)

Cheers,

Dane

Thanks guys for a very well run track day last Sunday!

Enjoyed it heaps even though I had heaps of problems with the old girl overheating and blowing cooling hoses all day.

We hope to see some of you guys down at Phillip Island on March 12th with the WRX Club. (We have held 30 spots for you until a week from the event)

I gave some entry forms and Sup Regs to Chris but you can get more here

dane i have seen a 2 or 3 of these blower drives fail on our track days and were of the same set up as yours and marks (was before your time with us) i thought by now the part that was failing was made of a stronger material , if i was running your set up i would take a spare part just in case , because if its gonna fail it will be at a track day ;)

Was a different day for me but still a ball - the first time on the start finish line did my head in :D . Trying to remember who had lapped who and when to put the chequred flag out gave my a big head ache

Combine that with Dane's monster going past at WOT and Bob Ellis with his stroker and 4" inch exhuast it felt like I'd spent the day at a Pearl Jam gig.

Glad everyone had a top day - if I can't be on the track I'm glad I can still be part of it. If anyone is keen to get closer to the track by flagging etc send me a PM and I'll help you to give it a go.

Cheers Stu

.... From the main man at Starr Performance, it appears certain blower drives may well have been made at a second choice location as to the 'norm' supplier. Peter is confident that the metal used in my blower drive is of a grade material that will endue the punishment. :) Now that I have this info, I can rest back, take it easy and never worry about such things.

Yes Spanky boy ...... track days are built for failures. A great test for the engine builders and a great test of patients for the owners at times. ;)

Must say a Big thank you to Dane for letting my daughter be passenger in "CALEYS" at the start of the day. Its not too often you get a chance to do some hot laps around a race course in a car like Danes and I thank him very much. Of course he is no where near as good a driver as Grassy but his car is louder. ;)
Much appreciated Dane. All I gotta do now is put a suspension kit through the Adventra and hit the track again.
