you are meant to use the provided shampoo for paint protection. all you can do now is continue on as if it wasnt' paint protected and start waxing, or pay for some paint protection stuff from a shop and reapply it.

Im not sure but I would imagine that you would have to remove the paint protection before you start polishing or waxing.

hrmm, hadn't thought of that. i spent 10 months in a car yard watching them do that every day (as well as working myself occasionally) and that never came to mind.

i can ask one of the guys i still have contact with if you want.

Just wax the bastard! The warranty on paint protection is a big rort... What could someone possibly do to their paint that would be covered under a paint protection warranty anyway?
You're having more damage done to your paint by the elements by NOT waxing it, so go right ahead.

Got the paint protection for my new monaro - then 2 days later someone keyed the front & rear quarter panels.
Got the panels resprayed - but didn't go back to the dealer to have the paint protection re-done.
12 months later & there is absolutely no difference between the treated/ untreated panels.
I am just about at the end of the special Holden car wash and won't be buying any more. I've given it the occassional wash with other shampoos (mequiares) & sometimes put a splash of kero in the bucket - as it leaves a nice gloss look on the paint work & rubber trim when it dries (also supposed help prevent rust - but this shouldn't be an issue as I also got the Holden anti corrosion treatment).
In hindsight I shouldn't have bothered with the paint, upholstery or underbody treatment, but yes - the saleslady was very nice and I was hypnotized by her ample cleavage.

I have been told by several spray painters that the treatment is just another way they can get money out of you and isnt worth anything especially if you normally would polish your car.

The general comment is that it may be a minor use if you never look after your car and never polish it.

I would find out if you should remove it first.

Check out these sites before you go waxing or polishing your pride and joy.

The water spots that are left on his car after washing indicates there is little to no "protection" left at the moment. Most, if not all "Paint Protections" are merely a wax or polymer spray. They generally last no longer than a normal wax so it's well and truly gone after about 6 washes. The *Special wash* they tell you to use is merely a "wash'n'wax" product no different to the cheap Polyglaze stuff you get in Woolworths for $4 a litre, so it re-adds "wax" when you wash with it.
Problem is that type of product will NEVER offer the protection you get from proper waxing.
Give the car a good wash with Meguiars wash that you have, then give it a good hit of quality wax. If you have swirls or marks that require polishing out, use ScratchX or another QUALITY polish before waxing. Do it before it's too late.

xlr8 v8 is on the ball. it is called wax guard cos it is wax. some of it is more waxier than other bits. the underbody stuff is real sticky, and in my honest opinion, i would have it applied at the right price. underbody fills in the small gaps in the body work so reduces rattles. as for paint and fabric protection, i wouldn't get it, but i would apply some sort of interior scotchguard stuff myself.

i must admit, i can't wait to be able to wax and polish my car again.!!!!

Reminds me of once in another life when I was in the industry we were hiring a new bird for the job of selling this stuff. The sales manager came to me with 3 resumes...He said this first chick has a commerce degree and heaps of experience... the second one has a marketing degree and has been in the industry for 8 years...and the last one has two degrees and is working towards a third, but not much experience...which one should we hire..?
Easy....Just give the job to the one with the biggest tits...
Sadly, it's almost true, and is a good indication of the worth of the product... :)
