When I exceed my monthly cable download limit, and I'm throttled to 28.8k, I find it a real choir navigating the forums on this BBS.
Does anyone else with dial-up access has similar problems?
For example, bringing up the first page of posts on a forum can take up to 15 minutes which is pretty bad.

thats cable for you. Keep complaining. Its actually a setting in the modem that needs to be changed by telstra but most of em dont know much about it. took me 2 mths of complaining to get anything done

I am actually on a dialup (33.6k) as I cannot get adsl or cable in my area and it works fine for me... certainly does not take 15 mins to load the front page...

I forgot to mention that this is the only BBS I have this problem with.

Indeed it is IS very slow when you get hobbled, I am guessing Optus Cable?? Don't think it takes 15 minutes though.
I find it heaps quicker to pull out the old modem and use dialup. I have been a good boy recently and haven't used up all our 12gb (sorry for those times Bek!)....I get very close, but watch it like a hawk the last day or two.
I am very much enjoying the unlimited between 2am and 8am, soon to be not unlimited, but 24gb between 2am and 9am. Use a scheduler program to start your favourite peer-to-peer program or use emule which has it inbuilt.
Cheers,
Jeff.

Hmmm. Maybe it's my ISP. I'm on Optusnet.
Still. Interesting that this is the only BBS I have the problem with.

I've also had problems with pages from this forum taking ages to load sometimes. I haven't noticed problems with any other sites. I'm on Bigpond Cable unlimited.

Very strange... up until recently I used to moderate this forum on dialup - that meant opening and viewing EVERY new thread/post each time I logged on..... never had any problems with speed ..... it was actually very quick compared to other forums I visit. Now on 1500/256 DSL it loads multiple pages with ease

I am on dial up...
which normally runs between 38 and 45k
tonite....49333bps which is excellent
am active on about ˝dozen forums
and don't have a problem with them or this site
have posts from all running at once...
even some forums that allow direct piccie posts
(limited to 800x600 though) are no problem
and I generally run my spam killer at the same
time I am jumping from browser page to browser page
btw
I use Mozilla which is DEFINITELY faster than IE loading
if you don't have it, its free (maybe also try Firefox)
cheers
