View Full Version : Bangor Bypass - A word of warning

Hi guys.

Those of you in the Sutherland area have probably experienced the Bangor Bypass by now, and its ridiculous 70km/h limit. Almost everyone I see does at least 90km/h along it (for everyone else - it's a brand new road, two lanes each way, fence in the middle, no exits/entrances (yet)...yet it's got a 70km/h limit)

I was driving along tonight (bit after 10pm), heading towards Menai, and parked in one of the exits (there's a few exits, but they're not open to the public) was a marked SS, hidden very well. Hit the brakes and looked in my rear-view mirror. The brakelights lit up two officers jackets who were standing on the side of the road.

Didn't see a flash or "Speed Camera in use" sign, nor did I get followed...so I guess I wasn't going fast enough to bother with. Still, it gave me a bit of a fright, and I'll be watching my speed along there from now on.

Just thought I'd give you guys a bit of warning. Dad said he saw them at least 3-4 times on Saturday (same spot). Sneaky buggers.

Cheers,
- Febs.

PS: To their credit...they saw dad flash someone on Saturday night, chucked a u-turn, sped up behind him (lights flashing), stayed there for a bit, then pulled out, overtook him and sped off. :D

Yeah, and it's not divided either. Very silly.

There's still hope though. Old Illawarra Rd used to be 50km/h past Menai High. Commonsense must've kicked in after a few years because they raised it to 60km/h. There's only two other suburban roads I can think of where the speed limit's been raised.

Cheers,
- Febs.

I agree that the speed limit on this new road is ridiculous. The road is brand new and with no traffic lights or exits, I dont see why this road isnt at LEAST 80kms. The other day on it I was doing 80kms and it felt so slow, prob coz all the others were passing me!

There has never been any issues with the old side being 90ks (which is perfect for that road) so I dont know why this part has been slowed down.

I have already got onto the RTA about it, the first day the road was opened, I got onto the site and sent them feedback on opening a great new road link but the speed limit is too low.

Maybe it will help if enough of us go to the www.rta.nsw.gov.au site and then to the feeback page to send them our comments regarding this issue.

Anyone from the south of Sydney know whats going on at Woronora Heights? Are they opening up Prince Edward Park Rd? Very angry residents, nearly all with hateful signs all over the street.

Also quickly, anyone travelling down the freeway from Sydney to Wollongong, watch out at the Lawrence Hargrave Drive exit. As your travelling on the freeway, as LH Drive on-ramps onto the freeway, be wary of marked police cars with a cop outside the car with a radar. I was lucky enough to see one as I looked to the side once with perfect timing, they hang out sneakily on the side of the on-ramp to the freeway, pretty much impossible to see for anyone except them people merging onto the freeway. I never speed through there but just a quick note for everyone.

Also quickly, anyone travelling down the freeway from Sydney to Wollongong, watch out at the Lawrence Hargrave Drive exit. ever since they removed the tollgates and put in those damn exits, the F6 has been ruined....
I never came across any stationary speed traps when it was a tollway and as long as you kept a good lookout you wouldn't overtake a police car driving along.

Every single car I owned (or drove) got a top speed run south out of the tollgates, before settling in for a $160km/h + run south...
