Hi,

One of my cats has fallen to pieces internally :(, and since I have an aftermarket exhaust (compelete with 'opened' cats) Holden aren't going to do anything about it under warranty. Fair enough call too, not complaining about that.

But now I need to get a replacement cat, and I hear that its best if both cats have done similar klms.

To save me the cost of buying two new replacements, does anyone have a cat from a Series II VY lying about that they dont need ? Preferably one that has done somewhere in the area of 20K klms ?

I'd be happy to come and pick it up, or pay postage.

The car is going in for a tune at Power Torque next Thursday, so I need to organise something fairly quick.

Cheers,

Andrew.

The way i see it you have two options:

1. replace both cats with after market ones.

2. Asked around a few perfromance exhaust shops for one. you may luck in here as i think the majority of ppl replace there cats when fitting aftermarket headers.

i also dont think it matter to much with age difference between cats. if you can get your hands on one just chucked it in.

Andrew,
I just threw a good one away (which does not help you) after the other one failed. You will have the same problem again if you do not weld the internals in place. There is a "cone" (like an inner skin) in front of and behind the biscuit which is held in place by the standard pipes. When you open them up to 2.5" and weld a pipe onto the very front and rear the internal cone is no longer held correctly and being as it is only an interferance fit where it touches the biscuit it will come lose after a period of time. It then moves around doing damage to the biscuit and half blocks the flow. I know you want to get out of this as cheaply as possible but my advice really is to just bite the bullet now and have a couple of high flows fitted. If not make sure you weld the internals properly to save this happening. The other thing is the entrance/exit of the cone is smaller than 2.5" so you will have to get at it with a dremel or similar to open it up correctly.

NOS540HQ2DOOR,

Thanks for the offer. I sent you an email but its ok because I got the 'broken' cat welded today and all noise has gone.

Mongy,

You were spot on, the internal section was flapping about. As mentioned, now that it is welded correctly to the outside skin, all noise is gone.

By the way, I priced a new replacement cat from holden ..... $814 .... each.

What a complete ripoff.

Got to love them :(
