I dont like the angular designs of the WL/WK at all. Nor do many others going on how many WH's are on here and how few WK/WL's (other than the limo's)

Sorry guys, I just had to jump in on this one. Sleek and slippery are more efficient than angular and blocky, no? You guys are talking about one of the so - called drawbacks to my GTO. According to several of our car mags it is so 90's. Piss on 'em. I love the styling and shape of my car. Sensual and sleek, and unbeaten by any retro - looking Mustang. And now, back to your regular program.

I wanted twin pipes but they wont fit with a 2100kg towbar. We tried all sorts of tricks to get it in there but no go. Plus the 2 x 90 degree bends would be a restriction. Damn Damn Damn. They look so good.
Best i could do was twin 3" system with 3" tips. Note photo is before it was cleaned and the exhaust rubber put back on. It was removed so i could polish the tips up

Hi Everyone, I'm new to the site, only had my Statesman since October and after exhaustive internet trawling this is the best site I've come across for info. Looking at "Corupt's" WK I was interested in the HSV Grange bodywork, very tasteful. Where can a newbie go to get that sort of kit? Not just HSV surely! Next up lowering a WK, any suggestions/recommendations? Thanks.

I've got another question for the lords of the barge: Generally speaking wil most enhancements discussed on the forums for Commodores work for Statesmans? For example will an exhaust system/brake package/suspension kit do the same for a stato as a (nearly said Commie there) Commodore/SS/ Monaro etc. I can only imagine the extra length and weight would change things. Or am I misguided?:errr:

In a word YES
Have a look at my car as an example of bolt-on results, same sort of thing as on Dunnydores. :kapow:
We just have more room (front and rear, to add stuff like OTRCAIs & second exhaust outlets)
VooDoo
11-01-2006, 09:51 PM
Everything fits. The Zorst is the same as the wagon or a Ute. Slightly more room for an intercooler up front. They really perform a LOT better with decent brakes but dont make the mistake of doing fronts only. Barges need better rears as well. Handling, go for a 48166 nolathane radius rod kit and go 1 setting harder for your upgraded suspension than you would in a sedan to counteract the added weight.
Lastly, fit a transmission cooler and a PS cooler. It will help your transmission and PS pumps last longer.
(and Boosted barges are best. hehe )
BTW, Fixel you need to change your sig. Im ADR and RWC compliant WITH the turbo :)

VHA VHB VHC: limo service.classy taxi service etc etc.
What he said!
VHA/B = Metropolitian Hire Cars (Limos)
VHC = Country Hire Cars
The "VHA" numbers that are on the Black one now used to belong to the white car which is now retired from Limo duties. New car just means that the license is transferred from the old to the new and number plates are assigned to the new car also. Old car becomes a family runabout in my books. Don't think I would get much for a car that has over 530000kms on the clock

While its possible you will loose the grill, front bar and gaurds in order to fit it. Your grill is attached to the bonnet and wont fit the monaro bonnet.
Best bet would be to get a set of nostrils grafted onto your existing bonnet, if you were so inclined. :)

Well I've bitten the bullet and joined your forum, as I've just bought a WK ls1in vespers blue last week. (I think this works out to be my 30th Stato'?)
I've already got the lower grey painted out and bought a set of VY2 Calais 17's (I don't know why, I just love that "sleeper" look).
Now the fun part.
I want to do the normal stuff but I want to get a better idea of which way to go before I shell out the $$$ EG: OTR against MCAI etc.
I have a near new Maloo exhaust system available to me @ no charge that a mate at an exhaust shop reckons is fine for a reasonably stock Stato' and fit with very little mods.
Has anyone else done similar?
As for the rest of the goodies, reading here sounds like diff gears, cold air and an edit is the go, but I'll have to sell some of my QLD plates to get the bucks up before I can continue.
Actually, while I'm in the "Barge" section, one that may suit someone is
"WHL51" on Indy -brace yourself- plates from my last Stato'.
(I've also got "SSV80" and "TUF 49") so I'll have to work out how to put these up for sale in the appropriate section.
Any one out there doing a WK/L Grange copy body kit yet?
Thanks for any info'
Regards
Chris

There still isnt a Grange copy for the WH yet so getting one for the WK/L might be a wait.
If your ever around carindale drop in and have a chat. Ive done almost every mod there is the Caprice inc a turbo :)

Nick at NVU tells me he can get a Grange bodykit for the WK for around $5600...bumpers, sideskirts all that...not cheap...not cheap at all...

The WH Grange kit is around $4500 + fitting and painting. Its cheaper to just buy a Grange.

You need to search and read the sticky posts. Validation has nothing to do with your ability to post pic's. Just host them somewhere and link to them.
This question has been asked and answered MANY MANY MANY times.

Finally got around to organising some pictures of the Barge (or Land Yacht as I like to call it:rolleyes:). The first one is of it with just the 18 inch wheels on, the second after lowering it, the third and fourth with the new brakes, in the last pic you can just see where some scumbag keyed the boot just above the badge:cussing:.
As you can see I'm working in Ceduna at the moment, heading back to Adelaide next week where I've got some Caprice headlights, grill, and new stainless 4>1 headers, hi-flo stainless cats and 2 1/2 inch stainless twin system and matching OTRCAI waiting to go on. Then I'll be heading to Tuna in the next couple of weeks to get the thing edited finally.:headbang:

Yeah I'm kinda in two minds about the wheels myself, thinking maybe some BMW wheels, more spokes on them. Brakes are PBR K1 kit, bought them off Johnyoo whenhe put his turbo into the Crewman, needless to say he was updating his brake package.

Yeah I'll admit Im not a big fan of full faced wheels either it was a bit of a trade off I bought it without the missus knowing she told me a while ago that she liked these wheels she saw in one of my magazines so I knew i could get away with putting on 20s if I said see these are the wheels you like did all the work before I gave it too her. Well, this thread is a little over a year old now, and still going strong - long live the barge... Thought I'd post a few pics of my latest lux-o-barge. I've only had her a few weeks, but we've managed to find time to squeeze in a basline run on the dyno at PT and have a few plans in the pipe-line already. Stock as a rock on 92 unleaded, and she rolled off near on 220rwkw with bags of torque. The LS2 engine shows heaps of potential, and has a lot of grunt down low..

Hi Guys,
Some awesome beasts on this thread, I was in Dubai recently and was fortunate enough to see that WH with the scissors, a little too much bling for me and those rear doors would be a bastard at the shopping centre, still looks fuggin awesome though.
Have always loved the barges, started with Fairlanes but switched to the Statesman when Ford stopped making 5.8ltr Fairlanes, here's some pics of mine.

Really? Are you of the "less is more" school of spoke design?:lol:I know a lot of guys like the 5 soke design for the asymmetrical look and the simplicity of few spokes. I also like the current VZ R8 wheels and the VZ Senator wheels, completely different to each other but I still like 'em...

11-05-2006, 04:20 PM
The current VZ Senator wheels are probably my favourite Holden/HSV wheel ever.
If not right up there in the top few, along with the VY GTS wheels.
Wheels are personal taste, and I really like the ones you have on now.
The third set of those three you posted would be my choice of that selection though.

Jase, what size were the tyres on the 20's on the Statie, 225x35?
Sorry mate still havent checked if I get home early enough tonight I'll post em up havent had the chance to drive it for a while too busy with work.
Hey SATANFIST checked tyres 225 on front ad 245 on rear. Its tight the suspension has settled a little since the pics the only slight rub is in nreverse at full lock and moving it just rubs the plastic inner guard. Hope this helps :woohoo:

Update for those interested:
2003 WK Statesman now with 20" DTM "Grange" wheels and 225x35 tyres. Personally I like the way the multiple spokes class up the car a bit, also hyper-silver as opposed to gunmetal on the last set of 18" wheels. Finally have all the Caprice lights in the front too.
Hope you enjoy...

Short answer is yes....to an extent. But it depends how fussy you are. My mate has a Grange and came very close to swapping back to 17s or 18s in order to improve the ride.....but he is an old sheila, and came from a Jag and a Lexus. :limpy:

That looks GOLD ... love it. The wheels suit the car really well.
The only thing that turns me off 20s is the need to go to 225s without serious suspension mods. I will have 265s on the rear of the Coupe without touching a thing. Hopefully they will fix that up with the new one.

I have Front coilovers and Bilstein shocks with slightly stiffer King lows in the rear and most ppl tell me how well it rides. I dont get any understeer and it corners very well. I hate really harsh rides but this is perfect.

23-05-2006, 04:59 PM
I found the standard suspension made it wallow like a hippo in the last waterhole of summer! I think the extra length accentuates the forward/backward motion when you go over bumps. Lowered with stiffer suspension just tightened up the handling noticably without compromising the ride quality too much...I'd rather feel what the car was doing when pushing on than have a vague perception of the handling.
So, uh, in short I'd say up to a point, no, it doesn't have an adverse effect.
And NickS, I agree totally, I wasn't happy about actually going down a size in tyre width but like you say without major suspension changes it's the only way it will work..coil-overs, guard rolling, etc may be next on the list after a bit of FI...:burnout:

Is the bottom of your Statesman grill hitting the top of the front bar? I couldn't properly fit the Caprice grill to my Grange front bar because the Caprice grill has too much of a point on it and would hit the top of the bar, so I had to buy the genuine Grange grill which was freakin uber-expensive!
That monaro looks s#it hot love it! Where'd you get the Grange Bumper from?

as someone who is about to move into "Barge Country" with a WH, im trying to work out which interior colour combo to go for. Could some of you guys please put up some picks of your interiors, mostly just the dash & front seats, of the cream, grey and black.
At the monment i seem to be leaning towards a tungston one with cream leather, but i might be able to get a silver one with grey real cheap, but havent really seen any good picks of either so hows about it boys, show us your interiors! :)
