Well it didn't take long.....took the R8 to Greg and the boys at Sureflo today for them to weave some magic and OMFG you should here the aural pleasure coming from the rear of the car now.
The Z series exhaust uses a stock manifold, 2" pipe into the cats then 3" piping with H-crossover to the intermediate mufflers then strangely runs 2.5" pipes the rest of the way.
Well that has quickly been removed - running an X-pipe from the twin 3" into 2.5" pipes with hotdog style mufflers and then into a large rear resonator to reduce the drone......the result is pure horn!!!!! Don't need a stereo anymore, I f%$king love it.
Inside the cabin you can hear a mouse fart, but outside it sounds awesome, not too loud, just enough to scare animals and small children :D
Drove back through the harbour tunnel and if I had more toll change I'd still be doing it now.......
SOTP is quite noticeable with some nice tyre chirps on the 1-2 and 2-3 gear changes.
I have tried to get an MP3 done, but it just doesn't do it justice, you need to hear this thing in person to appreciate it.
A big thanks to the boys at Sureflo, this is the 3rd R8 of mine they have worked on and their work just keeps getting better.
Now just waiting for a decent set of headers to become available so I can remove the restriction of the manifold and the 2" cat pipe.

Sounds like you're a happy man :). It'd be good to see if the dyno shows much of an improvement without an edit (which hopefully won't be too far away).

They are suggesting it's not far off at all...

Well in that case you'll have to bring it to the next cruise. :p
Planning on taking it to WSID at all?

Yeah but they've all been suggesting that for a while now.

The biggest issue I have at the moment is the LS2 CAI - it's unbelievably small. It basically draws air from a small cut-out hole on the radiator shroud which is about 5-6cm in diameter. I did find some LS2 OTRCAIs in the US, but they won't fit under the Commodore bonnet.
A decent set of headers, CAI and edit is going to really wake these things up big time - I think they are going to show some real potential once these issues are sorted out.
As for the work Sureflo did today, I'm just so impressed its not funny and it takes a fair bit to get me excited.

The next cruise for sure - a nice run through Kangaroo Valley would be awesome!!! as for WSID, this thing like my old R8 is going to live there once I get a few things sorted out.

That is a VERY promising thread. It'll be interesting to see how quick the LS2s go when they aren't hobbled by the std code.

Yeah but they've all been suggesting that for a while now.
If you follow the link in that thread and read the thread in their forum, the capability already exists, but has not yet been released - so it doesn't get a whole lot closer.

I'm sure we'd all appreciate it if you could rustle something up for us to listen to. Pleeeeasee :)

Alrighty I'm working on it!!
Jason,
Congratulations on the new VZ R8 & glad to hear you are getting straight into the mods . I have ordered a VZ GTO which unfortunately will not be delivered until early-mid May (Holden/HSV running late  ). In the mean time I have been planning the mods & one of the first things I intend to do is to modify the cat back exhaust as they are way too quiet.
As soon as I can get my hands on the software to start reprogramming the LS2's PCM I'll be into that too & hopefully changes to the air intake, short exhaust headers etc.
It is exciting to be starting the "journey" of LS2 mod discoveries after all we have learned over the last 3-4 years about the LS1.
I look forward to catching-up & comparing notes after I take delivery of my Yellow Devil GTO :) .
Cheers,
Acer

Hi Michael,
Congrats on the new GTO when it arrives....My original ordered R8 in Phantom was going to be 19weeks so when the blue one appeared as a cancelled order I snapped it up real quick.
I'd be more than happy to give you a real life demo of the new cats back, it may give you some ideas. The CAI and headers are problems for me at the moment as I discussed in a previous reply so I'm looking forward to some new "go-fast" bits being released.
I'm down Cronulla way quite a bit so if you are interested in having a look by all means let me know.
Cheers,
Jase.
Hi Jason,
I'd like to hear how your car sounds after the mods so I will send you a PM the next time I am heading up your way.
Thanks,
Michael

Is that offer open to anyone? I've been holding off doing anything as I didn't want to fork out the money and be dissapointed. I'd love to know how it would sound before hand. I'm realtively happy with the in-cabin sound, but outside its very quiet.
