Time to replace the standard tyres on the SS. The standard fitment is 235x40x18. As much as I'd like to go new 19's, cost removes this from the equation.
I have been considering going to 245x40x18. Now I know the rolling diameter on the 245's is slightly bigger, but is there any benefit (performance wise) having the slightly bigger footprint or is it more wank factor over the standard 235's.
Will handling be any better or should I put the saved cash towards say a decent set of springs and go the go the 235's.
Difference in price is $240 for the set, so thats about half the cost of spings.
This is S03's by the way.

The handling difference I'd imagine would be minimal, so I'd put the $240 to better use.

But if you do go to 245's, drop straight into a Holden Dealer and get them to change your tyre size with Tech 2 so your speedo is recallibrated.

Same goes for anyone changing tyre width/profile/rim size on a VT onwards.

My uncle used to race and once upon a time put wider tyres on his rims than were recommended standard... Result: the car actually didn't go any better, it went slower becuase the tyre will roll on the rim more and will have more sidewall flex from the increase i assume.

Stick with the standard size... and i had Federals on my last car and found them to be quite good for a standard tyre.

You will find that your only gain is in appearance. In circuit racing the bigger tyres will actually slow you down, both in gearing and in cornering speeds. Save your dough for some suspension.
