Hi,

I puchased a VYII 6sp 5.7 one tonner in November last year.
If I am on a hill and try to take off with a box trailer approx 600kgs the motor bogs down and stalls. I have to rev the motor to 4000rpm and ride the clutch to get it moving.
Holden has replaced a cluch and pressure plate and changed the diff ratio from the 3.46 to the 3.73 ratio.
They have also checked the computer and replaced the cats in the exhaust.
I am affraid to tow anything close to the 1600kgs the ute is rated to tow.

To my knowledge this seems to only affect manual one tonners and not the crewmans or utes.

Any ideas or information would be helpful.

Thanks
Barney

As I understand it the Utes and Tonners have nasty TQ management built into the PCM which only an Edit can remove.

It seems that you might need to get an edit just so your 5.7 litre V8 can tow a box trailer... pathetic factory computer settings are most likely your gremlin

Hi Barney
I had a similar thing happen in my m6 VZ ute on Sunday, with about 1100KG on the towbar. I put the boot into it when it was rolling in 1st and it died. It wouldnt go and eventually stalled after a second go. After a restart it took of with clouds of tyre smoke :o . It has happened pre and post edit? I'll be getting an auto next time. I hope you have sucess getting yours fixed.

Guys I think the main problem is the 2.66 first gear ratio, my one tonner will do almost 60kph in first gear.
First gear ratio is a joke for load carrying vehicles, this combined with a crappy standard computer programming, clutch and 3.08 or 3.46 final drive ratio I believe is the root of all the problems.
The six speed manual utes/tonners should be fitted with closer ratio box and come standard with heavy-duty clutch and at least 3.9s or 4.11s in the diff.
I would gladly pay more for this option if offered by the factory.
My two cents.
