Yeah it was only a 302. Not the most loved GT. Just had no power really. Recent GT's are just luxury cruiser's as opposed to the Boy racer's of the older models.

your pics dont work anyway. It doesnt look like any Commodore I can think of either.

I like the real Falcon GT like the XY GTHO none of the modern plastic fantastic Falcon GT's.

EB Falcon GT looks crap but thats just my opinion.

The only thing that let the EB GT down was the power (or lack thereof) of the motor - it had everything else to make it a good performance vehicle at the time.

And they are still commanding prices over 20 grand...not bad for a 12 year old Ford eh?

Not a fan... I reckon they look awful.

When it comes to good looking Fords the TS50 ranks pretty high in my books (apart from that huge rear wing, but that can be fixed easily).

Yeah the rear wing is a bit big, but as far as looks and performance, its my favourite over any other modern era Ford.

Coming from a Ford man (yes i know i've switched to the dark side lol), IMO it's an ugly car and never deserved the GT tag (but ive grown up around XW's & XY's) ... and mate where the hell did you get 355ci from? Unless this example has been stroked? I'm pretty sure these cars came out with a 304ci (4.9 or 5.0) engine.

About their value? I dont know anyone who would buy one, so i reckon selling it would be a problem to start with lol (ok ok that was a bit nasty for all owners of these cars :p )

Basically a very ugly car and didnt go well at all, not for its time either.

Every time i see one on the road i go WOW.

I wonder if anything has deserved the Legendary GT name since the XY.

I believe Ford has actually stayed true to their original GT classifications. Look at it this way:

The original GT's were basically the equivalent of the current GT's (Sedan with extra grunt and handling), it was really only the GTHO's that are held in such high regard today, and since Ford hasn't used the HO name since the XY I don't see any problem.

What Ford need to do now is produce a Supercharged GT producing somewhere in the region of 350-370kw and name it the "GTHO".

BTW: The EB GT was/is a joke, it didn't produce the power that was claimed and it looked like a taxi. The EL GT was a much better effort!

Definately last on the list for GTs.

My nephew had a Tickford EBII Fairmont Ghia in Black Pearl with full leather, sunroof, Tickford body kit, lowered etc. 5 litre V8. Was quite a nice car, I think it looked a lot better than the EB GT. Was a nice cruiser.

Yes, exactly right. Where Ford went wrong was they tried to make the EB and EL GT's look tough. Now when you make something that looks tough, you expect the performance to go with it right?

The EL was probably the ugliest looking local car ever apart from the VL Walky.

Ford, if ever bring back the HO nameplate, make sure it has the mumbo. No more half baked performance cars. You dig?

Yep not a big fan of those. They were supposed to be "the big thing" with ford producing 200kw! Many tested though only made between 165-180kw. Hence why the old shit box VN SS would always hand their ass to them on a plate. XW GT was nice, our neighbour used to have one. :)

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the new BA looks like a true Ford, a matured EA/B/D series car. The AU just went off track and the EL was too 'sleek'. The BA carries on the DNA from the earlier E series.

Why Holden and Ford change their DNA so often is beyond me. Granted, Holden have stuck to their DNA from the VT series better than any other locally produced car.

Cheers,
Steve

I'm wondering in Oct 1992 when the GT retailed for $62,500 what would of people purchased?

VP Senator may be an option, with 180KW and 179Kg lighter it was priced around $46,609 . The EB was probably the better handling car of the two. For $15,891 not sure if the GT was better value for money. GT's are more collectable and on the rise in price.

Most Holden and Fords with body kits from a few years ago look dated.

The GT did probably remain faithful to the Grand Tourer concept, a luxury model with sporting nature. A car you would be happy to drive interstate.

I reckon it looks rubbish. A normal Falcon covered in Play-Doh. The styling wasn't great at the time, and now looks really dated. (but who am I to talk about styling!! :o )

The XR8 Sprint was a much nicer, subtler car, and had the grunt (GT donk) that the XR8 lacked at the time.

Its a shame, considering the Rush / Roush (sp?) developed EA GT 351 mule that was built showed a lot of promise.

I think that car was actually due to be crushed, but was saved (so the urban myth goes) by one of the guys at the plant.. eventually finding a home at the museum in Geelong.. I believe anyway...

I nearly bought an EB GT second hand when I was 18, it was a white elephant then too. The guy selling it bought it for $80,000 new in 1994 and in 2000 it was advertised for a measly $17,000 with only 80,000km on the clock.

He was so shocked at how worthless it was. Thank god I didn't buy it because I would have bought a run of the mill EB falcon with too small brakes, flaring of the solenoids in 4th gear, dry bushes, boat handling and all that plstic crap. And worst of all it couldn't out run my ED Fairmont with 3.45 diff gears!! to 100kmh I was on his back door! No way was I paying $2500 a year to insure that!

I'm glad I bought the XR6 Turbo, its way more of a HO then any of the E-Series GTs.

I've got an old weels mag with that in it, it still wasn't very fast though. Was only making around 200kw but with nearly 500nm of torque and it still only peeled of a mid 14. It was running fairlane 225 tyres though i recall.

Yes they are very cool.
I think the T3 T-Series deserved the GT badge more then the EBGT did, but then again I think calling them the T-Series and not a GT(TE50) or GT-P(TS50) makes them a bit more unique.

Out of interest, I would say the none of you guys have seen my website, I have a spec comparison on there between the XW GTHO and the T3 TE50. Just shows how good the old XW was for its day.

Click here to see the comparison (http://users.bigpond.net.au/goran/tseries/Windsor.html)

I would really like to see what Ford would build as a car worthy of the HO moniker today, given the pedigree of the earlier XW/XY HO's.

And the fact that HSV would have to respond in turn.

(PS. Don't know what it'd do to the value of earlier HO's either, only reason I say that is because I stand to acquire a genuine, one-owner, Vermillion Fire XW Phase 2 GTHO sometime in the next 6 months. And I'm a Holden/HSV man through and through!!! :D)

The problem with the EB GT is that we are looking at it with 2005 eyes not 1990 eyes. I reckon every one thought it was cool looking when it came out but the styling is looking dated now. How many of us can look at our family pictures from 20 or 30 years back and not cringe a litte at the clothes we were wearing.

I was never a fan of the AU sedans but I've always had a spot for the AU XR front with it's twin heatlight design. it's the rear of the AU sedan that lets it down. The XR aint so bad since the wing breaks up the droopy look of the rear.

In my opinion the AU utes look great with the seperate tub. It was a simple choice for me to buy the AU3 pursuit. The good looking AU2/3 XR front and Ute back all wrapped up in just about the best looking AU body kit.

Who knows what people will think of it's looks in 10 years time.

I nearly bought one of them! But the Turbo was cheaper and arguably faster. But I didn't care! Nothing like an old school V8 tuned hard right from the factory!

You are right, they have two best parts of the AU, the ute's tail and sedans front. How tough is the body kit!?It makes my BA look so girly

Thanks Rednut99,

I nearly bought a BA ute but at the time they were telling me a 3 to 4 month wait for a V8 auto. Then I found the Pursuit 250 and didn't look back.

I like the looks of the BA front as well. I reckon Ford did a really good job on updating the styling. Have to say I wish I had the BA seats in my AU as they are much more comfortable.

ummm, no. no E series falcon will ever truely go down in history as classic as a charger :p especially the EB GT with its questionable power rating
