View Full Version : Should I be a HSV owner ????
It's almost time to update the VT2 clubbie, but I don't know if I should go HSV again. I love the car, but maybe an SS would be a better buy for me. The reasons are as follows:-
1. It's my wifes daily driver and has approx 105k on the clock
2. I have two kids so it is always messy
3. She gets washed about every 2 months
4. Because it's driven to the shops, the drivers door is scratched along with other bumps & marks on the bumpers etc.
5. I'm still building the garage, so at the moment there's no cover for her.
Etc, etc. So, what I saying is do I deserve a new HSV, keeping in mind because of the above the current resale value isn't too flash. Or should I save $$$ and purchase an SS as the family hack?? BTW, no disrespect to SS owners or the car itself. Maybe I just don't look after enough and should look for an '85 Camira ?

Personally, I choose SS over HSV always !!
Go the SS and spend the difference in mods (Tune, Konis etc) and have a car 10x better than the HSV.

calais more stuff than SS, but if u don't drive it.
Aus8, I'm not likely to mod it at all. I just prefer to leave them stock.

It you were going to mod it, I would say go the SS. But if not...go the HSV.
Of course you deserve it.. Doesnt everyone?
* Dont worry about the kids spilling things...Car lovers vacuum cleaners suck up everything.
* Tell the missus to park away from other cars in the car park to avoid the dings.
* Buy a red car.....you wash them monthly and they still look great.
* Save a bit of cash and buy a 2nd hand LS2 in about 6 months. You will save a bundle and you will have a HSV for much less than a new SS. In three years time compare the two purchases over a lager and toast your wise decision making.

So, what I saying is do I deserve a new HSV, ...
You're right, you don't deserve a new HSV so just buy it and give it to me, I'll look after it for you 'til you lift your game :lol:
Seriously though, there are a number of things that you might want to think about:
With VE coming out next year, what affect is that going to have on the resale value of whatever you purchase (Look at the value of a VT GTS vs a VTII GTS);
Insurance, particularly if it is going to get a bit knocked about;
Whether you want a first generation LS2 (not that they appear to have any problems but rather that there is no real aftermarket support yet for mods vs seven years of development on the LS1);
Whether you'd be happy with an SS; and
What you could spend the savings on (like a second car for the wife) if you purchased an SS.
So a tough decision. Me...I bought an SS for some of the abovementioned reasons.

If the new car is going to be treated in the same way
as the old one, then follow your own advice. There is
an 87 Camira SLI2000 on ebay with just over 80k
on the clock. We had one of these from new, and
it was a bloody beauty, 250k and the only thing
we replaced was a couple of rear wheel cylinders,
batteries and of course tyres. Apparently they are
rare as well :lol:
But, if you can afford to have an SS as a family hack,
then by all means go for it :)
HSVREDSLED, we test drove a Red z series at xmas, and that's the colour the boss wanted.
Bluevzss, a good point re the VE. Maybe I should wait to the VZ runout sales and decide then. My only problem with runout cars is options. I've been told you cannot option them up, what is on the lot is yours. Is that the case?

Normally i'd say go the SS + mods but with the LS2 out in the HSV's i can see them being a great investment. The VE by all reports will be heavy and slower. If its not you can always sell the HSV.
Im looking at getting a 18mth old VZ GTO in a yr or so. Dont get hit with the 35-40% 1st yr depreciation and still have enough warranty to get things fixed right before you start the mods. Plus LS2 edit will be well developed by that stage.

What's wrong with your current car? If you are not doing the Kms there is no tax advantages in a new car.

That is pretty much the case with runouts but you can add dealer fitted options. Me....I bought a demo, fully optioned as they often are and added a couple of dealer fitted ones. Saved a bundle on depreciation and hard running in, if that is what it had, appears to be good for them. My choice and I'm happy with it so far.

The quids you spend on mods you'll never see.
The quids you spend on buying a HSV you'll only mostly never see, but it has that feel and pride of ownership that a modded base car can't match.

Yeah, I reckon if our second batch of babies hadn't
been twins the much loved SS would be gone, and
a Devil Yellow HSV GTO would be in the driveway.
Only Holden on the road that I would toss the SS
for :yup:

just remember that you are used to the handling and braking of your current car! I took a new ss for a test drive a week ago and the feeling between both cars are worlds apart. Dont get me wrong, the ss was a lot more comfy, is just didnt handle and pull up like the clubby! Go the LS2 mate :D
