Hello, I'm not sure if VS questions are apropriate for this forum but i cant really find any other holden forums as active as this one.

Ok, anyway, my vs has allways been a barge, i got a reco engine because i blew up the last one, and as far as i know they put the origional heads on the new block, ever since i got the new block its been running fine but its allways had this 'tick tick tick' sound coming from the engine... anyway after giving the VS a good fang up at mount donna-buang the other week she's starting to 'tick' a bit too often and its got me worried... i think ive pinpointed it too the left head ( where the oil cap goes ) but i cant be too sure, my dad says it _could be_ that the oil isnt be pumped around enough so it needs a smaller oil filter ( because its like the noise comes and goes when it likes ) but i reacon something in the head is on its last legs and about to give way...

thanks for reading my post, do any of you LS1 boys have any tips that could help me fix this bloody problem, its so frustrating, every time i hear it i feel like ripping out the engine with my bare hands just to do a 1JZ-GTE swap :D

p.s. how much is 2nd hand ecotec head ( just one ) in good condition? thanks !

I had a car recoed over a year ago, we didnt have any problems and its got like 3 year warranty.

Now the car runs like a dream after the engine has been broken in, it feels much quicker than before.

At first the engine was really shakey after the reco! We thought that this was some fu.ck up but then according to the plan they tightened the screws after a certain period and the engine became as smooth as anything. Also they use some different engine suspensions now which are based on springs (?) unlike cars in the past.

I have a heavy foot, I tend to boot from all the lights as if the VS is an SS. So yeah I give it some stick.

We also service the car every 5 K.

escii ; Sons VS ute had a similar sound to what you are experiencing and initially we thought it was the fan belt tension pully. Had it replaced but tick tick noise was still evident and got worse. Ended up being diagnosed by a local mechanic as a worn slack adjuster on the timing chain. Replaced chain and adjuster and problem solved. Thankfully the cost was covered by warranty as the motor had to come out.
