View Full Version : LS1 forum infects another
:D Just want to say hello to everyone as this is my first post. Cautious of not asking something that has already been asked I have spent countless enjoyable hours searching every concievable apect of the LS1 and LS1 ownership. For what it is worth, I must say that this forum is priceless in terms of the information it provides as well as enjoyment. My Mrs doesn't understand how I can spend time just reading posted information about CARS, but then again she probably doesn't understand why I now MUST spend $1000s on what she thought was a perfectly good and fast enough car. She trys to understand though so I'll give her that.
Anyway, the bug has infected me, that is the mod bug, I can thank you all for that (I mean that in a good way). The drag strip virus hasn't got me as yet, being from Canberra and with no more drag strip it is probably unlikely it will. But mods, mmm mods, can't wait. My Monaro has had it's first birthday just recently so a few presents are due for sure. The funny thing is, and I'm sure so many newcomers go through the same dilemma... that is with all this wealth of information, good advice and increasing options... I found myslef even more confused. Headers or no headers, mild steel or stainless, 3.91 or stock, MAF or MAFLESS, exhaust almost loud, loud or too loud, warranty, insurance, Ahhh! But thanks to you all I have found my peace and very soon I will be booking in and driving the the Munro to Sydney for a few minor mods as follows:
3.91 diff ratio, Sureflo CAT back exhaust, MAFLESS tune (Most likely get it done by DICK whilst at Sureflo). That's about all my budget will allow, but I can't wait. I'm sure from all your own experiences that I have shared through this forum that I will have a grin from ear to ear the day I drive it out of the shop.
Anyway, I guess the purpose of this thread was to say thanks to everyone for their indirect collective help throughout my development as a new LS1 owner. If anyone thinks I should spend my money on something else rather than the mods mentioned (or on top if not too much$) then please sing out, I am an amateur at this.
Cheers,
YCV8
Life is not a dress rehearsal so enjoy it!
P.S Just to confirm my 3.91 intentions, am I correct in believing my M6 S3 Munro has the 2.66 thru 0.50 ratio box rather than the 2.97 thru 0.62 ratios as found on the VZ Monaro.
P.P.S. Does anyone know a good quality good value diff shop in Canberra or Sydney re my 3.91 mods?

Welcome and join many others here who have the same feeling which you do now.
Fortunately or unfortunately, the bug gets you bad when you read up on stuff in here.
Personally I thought I would just settle for diff, exhaust and edit.
Ah well, about to go the next step. Cammed. you get that. :)
You will find many more hours of enjoyment on here and get to chat with quite a few interesting people around here.
I guess it is not the bible, however there is a lot to be gained from others experience on here and most people I personally have found to be more then helpful to answer anything you are in doubt about oriented around LS1's and anything that goes in general, be it V8 or a one poper.
As you already found, the search button is a great friend for finding all the info you are seeking and if that fails, adding a post you will soon find people willing to input their experience and recommendations to answer your questions.
The mod's you are getting done to your car sound great and will garantee the :D on your own and friends faces.
Only problem is that some people may go  and require a few sets of underpants if they ever decide to jump in your ride again after the mods are complete.
Welcome and enjoy.

Great to hear from you YCV8, the mod bug bit me also after discovering LS1.com having the power is just the start.
My advice would be keep away from the drag strip, very infectious place.

Welcome mate, but remember to take advice from those that drive cars, rather than those that only race their keyboards. Take it.....on board.

Welcome dude....there is a mountain full of knowledge here.
Plenty of other subjects of interest and once you get to know people you might benefit from the services they provide also eg construction,It sales, etc.Keep your eye out in the classifieds section also for a bargain or 2.

Welcome aboard and it is good to see you have done your research so you will get the best value modifications for your money.
Just remember though in a couple of months time and you are used to the newfound power and you have lost a bit of the "I can't get the grin off my face" factor you will probably start thinking about wanting more. Most of us have been down the track where we have been conservative in our outlook only to go back later for more, we all just say to ourselves "oh well, this will only cost me $XX and it'll give me XX more power" when in reality we probably should have just bitten the bullet and done it in the first place.

Welcome, Edit if u can afford, big bang for $$$$.
Welcome brother
I agree with the edit for the power rush and then headers and exhaust for the sound effects. I wish I had known about this site before I started on my car with the information I have now there are a couple of mods I would have done differently and I'm not going to mention them either.

The likely outcome would be something as follows:
Mods go up exponentially, Wallet content decreases exponentially, however this equates to a large sum of fun.

So far done 18500km of pleasure filled driving and the following mods:
Sureflo exhaust - twin 2.5" stainless - really happy with it.
2 hole mod, K&N filter - I guess because everyone else was.
3.91 diff.
Lowered - Pedders
tinted windows by Solartint
Red Monaro engine covers
MAFLESS tune by SAMS PERFORMANCE
HSV gauge pod with Timex (UK) brand 7 colour Oil pressure and Volt gauge - fitted but not yet powered up - oil pressure sensor is in (used HSV adaptor plate) - love the gauges, can't wait to get them powered up but waiting for a mate to do it.
20 x 8.5 inch alloys - CTW brand, wheels design is called COOL (also know as Akuza brand) with Wanli tyres. - Look sensational IMO.
The photo above has the VZ bonnet which I added using photoshop but something I am seriously considering. Just evaluating cost against improvement.
So far the Mrs has been okay with the spending but only cause I've not talked about the cost part too much.
Very happy with mods so far but as everyone experiences, once the bug infects you, there is no turning back.
I am waiting for my Mrs to go through a Family Court settlement (divorced over 2 years ago but been dragged through an expensive settlement ahhhhhh!) and pending the results, my mods over the next year or two have been mapped out (I plan on keeping the Munro for some time):
Harrop 4 spot 343mm brakes.
VZ bonnet
Gen T turbo or PWR/Harrop supercharger.
It is a do-able wish list but with the Mrs wanting a bigger home the mods will depend on the Court results, ie whether or not we have a big bill (other than the $30,000 she has already spent on solicitors ahhhhhhh - lets not go there).
I have some photos on a web page I made up (there are some slideshows as well as a page on Photoshop mods including one I did recenlty on Voodoos boosted barge which looks good IMO) but they also appear throught the forum as XLR8 V8 has already found.
