Hey guys what gives with HSV sunroofs. When I ordered my GTO with a sunroof I thought I was getting a factory install, as it turns out I end up with this crappy after market job that has more rattles then the local day care and has more wind noise when its closed than when its open really takes the shine off a great car. Anybody else got a HSV sunroof with problems or did I just get a lemon

Thats not a good story. I am in the process of considering an upgrade from my VX Clubbie to a VZ Clubbie and was factoring a sun roof in (never had one before). Interested to hear what others have to say.
I mean really how hard can it be to get a sun roof properly installed - the first time.

I think part ot the problemm might be the coupe is just so slippery, and so quiet normally with the felt seals on the doors etc; anything you do to teh roof just detracts from it. I've been in a car with a Webasto sunroof which had no rattles, and wasn't especially noisy, but that was a 4-door.
I've Got HSV (HBD) fitted Sunroof's in both My cars a 04 VYII HSV Clubsport & a 03 VY LS1 Berlina Wagon. also had a HBD fitted sunroof in My old VX SS & the same sunroof fitted to My old 03 Nissan Patrol. They are all Webasto Hollandia roof's & never had any issue's or probloms at all with any of My sunroof's. Take it back to the Dealer & demand they fix it..

I can put my hand up here for wind noise. I got a VXII Clubbie R8 and the wind noise from the closed sunroof at 100+ is a little annoying and was wondering what I should do about it also.
Other then that, it works great, no leaks and have had no probs what so ever.
Can these things easily be resealed?

Same here. No problems with the one in my Monaro - apart from a bit of wind roar when it's right open (no 2 position) & I'm doing over 100k's - click it back to No 1 position (tilted) and quiet again.
You'r not missing the front deflector or anything are you ???

Not good news!-Maybe some of your problem is in the installation & adjustment.Installation is a complicated procedure-I've had a few done by Peter Puleo(Melbourne Hollandia agent-tought HSV installers),& I get really worried when I see the car dismantled.Never had a problem with Peter though,& it was my understanding that HSV used a Hollandia roof.I would say that unless the installation was a shocker,a professional adjustment,BY SOMEONE WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING,should rectify the problem.
I'm on my 2nd HBD sunroof, neither have rattled so you may have an installation problem. As for wind noise, it can be heard over 100 when closed but unless its raining I usually have it open anyway. I like them for fresh air without getting the 100kph blast in your ear. Even if it is raining, thats what the raised/angled mode is for. On the rare occasion I do drive over 100 with it shut, if the noise gets on my nerves I find closing the cover muffles it enough.
My first one did develop a problem where the thing wouldnt close by itself, turned out to be a suspect install had warped the runners just enough so they provided too much resistance on closing. This triggered the safety mode that thinks someones got a bodypart in the way so reopens the window. Fixed under warranty no problems.
Oh one more thing, the installer that did the repair said the Hollandias come with a little plastic strip that covers up the workings in the runner on either side. The first sunroof still had these in which he removed when repairing. He said experienced installers remove these as they are cosmetic and only cause jams and rattles. They just clip in and out easily, maybe this is related to your rattles....

Hi Midlife.
I'm pretty sure that the bloke that did yours is the bloke that did mine. He does most if not all the roofs for Holden dealers around here. While he was doing mine he got a call from Zupps to organise a couple of fittings.
If it is him, I am surprised that you have problems as I watched him do my daughter's car and mine and have nothing but praise for the quality of his installations. Neither of us have had any of the problems you are experiencing.
The sliding panel used to rattle a bit in my old clubbie when it wasn't pushed fully home but the new one doesn't though I expect it will after a few years of use.
It sounds like yours isn't sealing properly when it is closed. When I close mine at highway speeds the pressure change affects my ears. Hopefully yours just needs a minor adjustment.
Hope it gets fixed quickly so you can get on with enjoying your magnificent GTO.

Hi Jed
Mine arrived from HSV already installed, I know because Micheal and I picked it up from TNT to deliver it back to Zupps, so it wasn't done locally.
But I hope they call him to fix the problem when it goes for its first service.
Cheers

Had mine installed in my CV8 through Holden before delivery. Apparently the HBD guys installed it. Made quite a bit of noise when open (rattles, clunks, creaks) - took it back to the sunroof company and they fixed it without any dramas (even though holden installed it).
Apparently the slope of the monaro roof causes problems if they dont make some modifications to the drip channel at the back (I think they called it the drip channel). Absolutely no noise whatsoever now!. Apparently they have quite a few ppl with this problem.

Hi Jeff,
Fair enough. Must be disappointing though.
Mine goes in for its 10k service on thursday. That came round damn quick. Lots of fun though.
