Just caught the end of the ad last night on TV, but
it was about a servo (think in SA) that was selling
fuel for $1.60 per litre. Anyone else see it and know
which show it was? Think it is on tonight.

Fark. $1.60. I know a servo in Taree (NSW) was on the news the other night for selling it at a $1.55. This is crazy stuff!!

Got a quote in front of me from my lease company for a brand new VZ R8 Clubsport. Based on 26,000 km's a year they have estimated $3,300 for petrol. And no doubt this was based on say $1.10 a litre.

They are always conservative so i reckon closer to $4,000 for me.

If petrol was to go from $1.10 to $1.60 (nearly 50% increase) it would cost me $2,000 extra a year to run.

That is a big hit for anyone. It will not change my decision.......just means the wife will have to drive an Echo to pay for my petrol costs !!!!!!!!!!

When you do the lease, do you end up paying for the actual fuel cost, or do they just allocate an amount as part of your regular payment and if the price goes over that, too bad?

around here, unleaded has been above $1.26\L for months. I filled up for a trip on friday with bp ulitmate for $1.34 a litre.

Good thing my car only comes out on weekends, sometimes it doesnt move for weeks coz i dont go anywhere. Good thing for car covers.

For any lease the original costs are based on estimates for everything from fuel to tyres to number of km's etc. My salary sacrifice is based on these estimates.

Once the lease starts they track these estimates against actuals and yep you guessed it - at the end of the lease/year they reconcile it all. If you have under estimated then you owe them !! But in most cases it is not a lot of money - these lease companies are pretty good at their estimates.

Always good to talk to your lease company about their estimates. I had one mob who allocated 2 tyres per year (26,000 km a year). Don't know about the rest of you but i need 4 new tyres after 25,000 km so i asked em to increase the tyre budget.

And during the course of the lease you can ask for a 're-estimate' to be done. I need that for my petrol. I am about $2000 over budget on petrol after 3 years !!!

time for the Federal government to cut excise down to 10c per litre.... What's the point in taxing so much that people avoid using it, they certainly can only make money when people are using the product? I avoid driving as much as possible unless fuel is UNDER $1 per litre Good for the greenies i guess, bring on the Ethanol and Bio-diesel!!!

Speaking of which, I did pay $1.44 at the SA/WA border driving home from QLD last november.

Not much you can really do about the price but pay it otherwise it's a long walk or if your a mad tourist you cycle. Crazy buggers.

Wasn't the GST supposed to get rid of the fuel excise anyway?

the GST was supposed to drop the excise about 10c per litre, and then put 10% GST on top of the new price.... i think they ended up just wacking the GST on top of the old excise.
