View Full Version : VX and VXII SS - coloured instruments

Am I right in thinking that it was when the VXII came out that Holden started matching the colour of the instrument panel to the colour of the car in the SS?

Just looking at some in the Trading Post, some of the pics show cars with grey instruments, and others are colour keyed (eg. red in red or black cars).

VX SS ser 1 also had colour-coded instruments Marco. Red in red hot or phantom cars, grey in silver or white ones. With series 2 came colour coded leather trim, and of course hyper mica.

One exception to this are ex police cars. All ex police VX SS were fitted with grey instruments (regardless of colour) due to specific 2km/h speedos.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

my WHITE VX SS has a SILVER coloured instrument background
(with cloth trim, not leather)
The background looks like a SILVER external paint job on an SS
...looks nothing like grey
do i have a strange one???

Maybe the one I saw in pics was an ex-police car, although I didn't think the police bought manuals.

Some QLD & Vic police were manuals. NSW police I think were all autos with the grey dials and extra increment measures marked between numbers.

That makes sense - this car was at a dealer in Melbourne, so could well be ex-Vic police. Also had a dash mat, which might mean someone's trying to cover the mounting holes in the dash for the police gear.

I love the fact that my Hyper yellow color is rare & stands out on the road. Love getting looks from other drivers....especially after I blow'em off at the lights

Yep, only available for VX series 2 cars, just like the tiger mica for VX series 1. These limited edition colors are good to keep as it will be interesting what (if any) premiums will be on them later down the track.

as did my VX exec until I put matching white dials in for $100

Autographed too by Cam McConville and Greg Murphy so it looks good :teach:

Although a super old topic I never knew this topic existed but it answered a question Ive wondered about for ages

I haven't seen a red cluster before, is it clearer to read than the grey/silver in a white VX ? not enough colour contrast in my dash especially in the late arvo. If anyone has pics of a red cluster i'd love to see them.
