Is it a VY (Ecotec) or VZ (Alloytec)?
If it is an ecotec then i don't see why it should be a problem. I'm not sure about the alloytecs, I haven't seen one on gas as yet and I'm pretty sure Holden don't offer factory lpg on them, so they must be incompatible with lpg for some reason.

Thanks mate, it is the VY Ecotec engine.

I had LPG ordered on my VY because I had it on my ED Falcon,Consider these options, Extra maintenance,Cost of installation[$2800 for the VY after market],how long are you going to keep it and is it good for resale, loss of space, performance is lowered on both petrol and LPG.
I ended up pulling the pin on it,even with the high petrol prices I`m still happy with my decision.

Probably because he knows that the government is planning to phase out LPG - believe it or not.

You may want to let the Department of the Enviroment and Heritage in on this little gem as they are boldly predicting LPG will account 8% of all transport fuel usage by 2010 and have recently produced a new standard for LPG fuel.

Not to mention the Taxi industry and Woodside

BP have a cost calculator you can use,

http://www.bp.com.au/products/LPG/lpg.asp

may help in the decision?

I love my LPG powered cars, and I highly doubt I'll ever use petrol again. Espescially now it's so expensive, and there's so much crappy fuel out there...

Just remember, there's a whole range of after-market and custom made LPG performance products out there... ie cams, etc, aswell as very competent tuners who work specifically with LPG.

Another member here told me that Holden was working on a dedicated gas AlloyTech engine by cost-cuts lead to that being canned. I'm fairly sure you can get a duel-fuel Alloytech through Holden By Design.

I've had a look on the Holden website and can't find anything about lpg in the options list.

Currently not on the horizon for the ALLOYTEC

The owners manual clearly states that Holden do not endorse/advise LPG with the Alloytec engines. Don't know why.....

OK, I stand corrected.

Probably to stop any aftermarket conversions with the fear/threat of voiding warranty's until they have a chance to test components on LPG-fueled engines, especially valves etc where the dryness of LPG is problematic unless the engine is modified for LPG. With diesel even more expensive then petrol I can't see it as too long before Holden LPG factory fitted or approved systems are eventually released. And the Fed Gov's plans to add and gradually increase an excise on LPG to bring it in line with petrol not planned for a much later introduction, it's still worth converting to LPG on high mileage cars.

Definetly the way to go,have been driving some dedicated gas BA falcons at work, roughly 25 to 30 dollars to fill up and they are averaging around 450km's city driving. They take slightly longer to start and have not got the grunt of the petrol versions, but feel smother to drive, and its hard to notice the power difference in day to day driving. The more petrol rises the more seriously i am looking at getting a family vehicle on gas.

Have a read of this recent exchange

Mike

Thank you very much for that clarification - I didn't know it was an EPA
issue

Thanks

Mike
