I heard that the latest stats in theft have stepped away from VS and now target VT-VX, most likely SS range.
VT-VX are common among thieves targets as they are popular cars and in demand for parts.
Comments?

I thought it would be harder to break into these models as they all have the deadlock feature ??
These criminals must be up-skilling.. maybe there's a tafe course you can take for that ?

Well you can steal any car, including the new BMWs and Ferraris... all you need is a truck and enough space to get the towing gear onto it :)
Joy riders will not touch VXs, they only steal older cars without immobolisers.
But yeah professionals can steal anything.

Under 25, I paid $1000 fully comprehensive for the VXII SS (insured value $30K).
Now 25, Suncorp has offered me $1000 fully comprehensive with many options included.
Maybe Brisbane isn't as bad (yet)?

Comments?I'm more concerned about returning to find the rims gone. That seems more likely than the whole car disappearing these days.

A family friend had his SS loaded up on a truck while they were watching go-kart racing.
I'm trying to think what those slimey turds do. Call a mate in with a truck or just cruise around with their truck all day? POSs.

and no one at the race noticed this  a car going into a truck has gotta be suspicious. although a proper car transporter with cars on it maybe less suspicious over a enclosed type truck

Seriously, you'd think people would have been suspicious with a truck lurking about but then again, usually when people are out having fun the last thing on their minds is a bunch of thieves waiting in the wings. Btw Myles, I never heard that story... was the SS recovered?

pros probably target a car thats suits via payments to employees with tech 2 access or transponder copy machines to copy a key. grab it at the right time and drive into a truck. never seen again. beats driving it on the road at risk it may get reported before you make it back

It would sure beat saying to the heat "my car was there 30 minutes ago and now it's gone. Any ideas?" Instead you could say "my car's GPS transmitter is currently sending signals from 123 crime avenue, thievesville." Busting them redhanded would be a great feeling as opposed to your car turning up 6 months later completely gutted. Anyone here know more about this kind of technology for consumers? I know the police use tracking devices with bait for car thieves but is anything reasonably affordable available to the public here for the average joe that can be concealed well?

Yep - But it isn't held at Tafe anymore, its been at at Long Bay for a while, and the Minimum course length is 6 months before you are 're-qualified'.
Then you are eligible to get some work experience from the new course so they let you out on 'Parole'.
Most get good work experience and go on to fullfill successfull and happy lives ripping off genuine and honest people - but some, usually the ones that were goofing off in class, end up back in Long Bay to do the course all over again, the ones that cheated in class and got caught

I might be wrong, but that person's excess would have to be high. Lower premium, very high excess? Is it $1000 per claim?
With the story I told before, all I recall from the conversation is the car was taken, never recovered.
Recently, I gave a second car of mine away as it was no longer needed. Not to say it's the same as stealing a newer car, but these guys I said could take it, loaded it up on their trailer and took it away within a few mins with their 4WD.
I hardly heard a thing and I was inside a few metres away (and yes the hearing is fine).
I'm no expert as all I think about is my own car. But could they load up your SS on their trailer, throw a car cover over it and take it away within a short period of time?
I guess it doesn't have to be a 'truck' if you have the equipment.

Well as long as they can get it up onto the trailer. Scarry!
If I ever get my VX SS II, ill:
Drive it to "safe" places where there is safe parking (mates drive way, garages, security etc) or if shit parking place, ill try and make sure to park where its hard to tow it.
Dead lock it.
Have the alarm rewired, stock ones are easy to by pass by professionals.
Buy a club lock and always have it on if leaving the car for more than 30 min.
Maybe invest in GPS.
Touch wood anyway!

Wow that's amazing, well i forgot to mention 1 other thing. Car is under my old man's name. He is rating 1 age like 45. But I also think it has to do where the car is parked etc (suburb / garage blah blah). But yeah I just got the bill and its $642 to be exact :D
My exess is normal though, like you have $300 per claim, plus $300 for high performance and thats it. If someone who is driving the car isn't on the policy, the exess is doubled. So basically looking at $600 which isn't to bad.....
So I am happy with that, but yeah under my name and rating it would be around the 1500 mark... so for a few years till i hit 25 i'll just leave it as is.....

Navman market GPS sat tracking here (Auusie Company) they are small and can transmit via mobile phone aerial or own hidden one. They arent cheap at about $16oo approx fitted and of course dont work if car is undercover etc and cant see satellite . But definitely worth considering
