Hey people,
Purchased my VT HSV Senator Signature Series 195Kw this week with 93000Kms on the clock. On purchasing I get the standard 3 years/175000kms warranty for minimal claims of I think around $1000 per claim, I think up to $10K in total over the 3 year period for basic car issues.
I was offered an Unlimited Holden Factory Warranty of up to 3 years/200000kms complete warranty inclusive of oil leaks etc etc etc. The cost of this being $1500 to purchase.
Do you people who have had Top of The Range GMH vehicles think that its worth the purchase. Have many of you had that much drive train/engine drama? Its no Gen3 and I know that "some" have had issues before. I would only be driving the car say 15kms per year?
I would appreciate your opinions.
"point to note have already had 1 issue where as whoever serviced the LSD DID NOT add the extra addative to help with the binding issue"
This is now all OK.

I could be wrong, but i think most on here will advise that its not worth the paper its written on.
For starters i believe you have to have EVERYTHING, including all servicing, done at the dealer you purchased it from, or the extra warranty is void.
And they will rip you for any charges relating to servicing that you have to have done there.

I might just be lucky, in the past ive had great success with them. With a waterpump + power steering pump replacement, you've almost paid for it :)
I had a stock vr v6 i think i had 2 trans rebuilds (1 full recon replacement) via it aswell as other things along the way.
As has been said , alot of people on here dont think their worth it. Mine i can get serviced anywhere, aslong as its by a qualified mechanical workshop, no dealer/mechanic specific stuff until you need things fixed.
The waterpump/ power steering pump ive had replaced via it on my VT were both done by a holden dealer, whereas previous transmission work seems to go to one of their *specialists*.
Your not really doing alot of KM's per year, aslong as your looking after it while its sitting still, its probably not worth your dollar. If you were doing a number of km's per year , say 30-40,000 it might be more worthwhile as the extra KM's will mean more wear and tear.
At the end of the day, your call though.

In fact the warranty that Sandgroper refers to states that you don't have to tkae the car to the purchasing dealer, nor even a holden dealer. As long as the car is serviced regularly by a licenced mechanic, if there are any problems you need to take the car to any holden dealer and they will arrange for a claim on the warranty insurance.
No claim limit, except for normal wear and tear, etc.
I haven't had to claim yet, but I think it's worth every cent if my LS1 ends up with an engine knock or a dead gearbox down the track, and I'd otherwise have to pay for the repairs.

I have extended warranty on the clubby and have fond some problems and some good points. Bad, I have to take it to Adelaide to get it serviced or to have any work done to it (600km). The only good point is that I had a shift soleoid go on the reans and they put a new trans in at no cost.
Mixed feelings on this one. over 100000k of the car life 12000km of that is just from going to get it serviced. Not as cheep as it might sound at first.
Good luck

Don't want to throw a dampner into the thread, but I strongly advise a re-read of the small print if thinking you have 100% cover in the event of claiming for a replacement engine or gearbox 100.000Ks down the track...

That small print can catch a lot of people out. Make sure you read it and ask any questions before you get it. That way you know exactly where you stand. With my trans I had a win I thought I would be up for at least part of the cost. I also thought that they would just replace the solenoid but they said that due to the distance that I had to travel with the problem they changed the trans over. No charge. :D Gotta win some times.
