48000kms for an 03 model is rather high.If I was buying an SV8,which I believe is a good package,I'd want it to be significantly cheaper than an equivalent year SS(otherwise why would you buy one?),& it would have to be the RIGHT vehicle. There are plenty of low kilometer SV8's around-I've seen a few with around 10ks on the clock for $28-30k,so shop around. As well as price, the Sv8 being the sort of vehicle that it is,could have been subject to a bit of abuse,so sus out the owner as well if you can.If you are a private buyer with cash, you are in a good position,so be prepared to haggle.

yeh it does sound a bit high dosent it im in perth and i havent seen a lot around with decent ks ive rung up about a couple of cars but the owners have money owing on them and i would be a bit dubious about buying the car from them for obvious reasons and the dealerships are just asking ridiculos prices for them ive been looking hard for 4-5 weeks now and have the money hopefully something will turn up soon theres quite a few nice cars in the ls1 forums classifieds but not much in perth oh well fingers crossed :(

Its not really that high. Remember the average Australian car does 25k a year.

Surprisingly :) this is quite possibly the safest way to buy a late model used car for a private buyer, simply obtain two bank cheques, one for the seller,( assuming there is equity
in the vehicle) and another to the bank / finance company who holds title to the vehicle ,both you and the seller go together to pay the car out.. This removes all doubt that the car you are buying is now unencumbered,. although lenders often take a couple of days to release there interest on *REVS* they will issue you a receipt showing full payment…this is not a problem
There have been a more than a few cases in the past where a car has been paid for with an equity loan or similar and unknown to the borrower the car has then been listed against borrowers assets..can get complicated …at least with money owing deals ( Hp / lease payout etc ) its up front 99% of the time.

Edit....Aus8 is right on the money re K's ;)

My Dec 03 VY SV8 currently has 21k on the clock.
If I was to sell it, I'd be looking at around 30 to 35K

Don't know what it's like over there but as Markone2 said I ended up trading in my series 1 SV8 for $28K because I had come down to $30K over a month on CarPoint, CarSales, CarsGuide, eBay and in the Trading Post and couldn't even get a sniff of a genuine enquiry. The price of the new one was set in concrete so that was a genuine trade in price.

My SV8 was absolutely immaculate, had Holden By Design body kit and dark tinted windows so (for better or worse) was a bit of a head turner, full electrics and only 25,000km on it by the time I sold it. Had many, many strangers comment on how good it looked. It had not one mark on it, never in an accident and hadn't even had a warranty claim. Absolutely brilliant car for whichever lucky bugger finishes up owning it assuming they don't pay too much. :)

After reaching $30K without a sniff I decided to take the $28K trade in to avoid having to finance the SS rather than hanging on and hoping to get an extra $1000-$1500, especially given what new 04 plated SV8/SS prices were coming down to and what higher petrol prices were also doing to used SV8/SS prices.

As I said, I don't know what prices are like over there but IMHO over here $27K would be too much for a private SV8 with 48,000km on it, even if it had full electrics, cruise control etc..

Read the thread "SV8's Hard to Sell Or Everything?" and you will get a good idea of how hard it seems to be at the moment to sell used cars privately in that price bracket. If WA is like over here you should be able to do far better than that.

Wonky :)

just as a matter of interest what do you guys think its worth with those kays on its optioned with the side airbags cruise control etc tow pack etc and no modifications??

From memory the electric windows/cruise control/side airbags option pack was just under $2,000 on mine ($1890 rings a bell???) and that makes the $27K a bit more attractive, but as I said mine had only 25,000km on it and was immaculate/unmarked, had that ($1890?) option pack, $1400 worth of HBD body kit, $495 RRP tint (not that I paid that) and a few other things and still didn't even get a sniff at $30K.

However, as others will tell you on here, you never get back much on extras, even factory fitted. What they do is make a car easier to sell eg. if you see two identical cars at basically the same price but one has electric windows/cruise/SIAB then most likely you will buy that one rather than the one without.

As far as tow pack goes I would far prefer to buy a car that has never towed and fit a decent towbar myself if I needed it. Heavy towing can seriously stress the drivetrain, especially some of the wallies I have seen killing their cars. (We have horses and see a lot of stupid things with people towing. We have a triple horse float but have a Patrol for towing - my SV8 never had a towbar and the SS doesn't either.)

That option pack was already fitted to my SV8 when I bought it.
Worked out to be $1915 added to the cost, although I just looked at my bill of sale and can't see any reference to it.

I paid 35000 for mine 04 m6 +1120 for side air bags and rear windows + on road costs Brand new that is,
But it is very hard to find SV8'S ONTHE MARKET OVER HERE some times you come across a couple and then you dont see any on the market for a month or so very popular over here even though there isn't that many, what i mean is when they come on the market they generally sell pretty quick
