Thought about home building a jet engine cart?
These guys have in the links below
Experiments with old turbo chargers being converted into turbine jets are abundant on the internet and a search can bring up heaps of interesting experiments and concepts :)
Check these things out anyway!
1). Turbine go-cart

2). Turbine go-carts - second blows the turbine. Enjoy!

Just thought I might add an interesting read on the subject of turbine powerd cars and some development in the early 60's.

Would be great to know a few people who have dared to do something like this. Amazing what people can do when they are a little bored and start to tinker :)
Turbo charger turbine engines are apparently not difficult to construct however they are dam dangerous if you are not confident building stuff like that.
Just need an old turbo charger with good internals, build an oiling system for it, build a combustor unit for gas or liquid fuel, Build a good fuel delivery and control system then hook it all up, tune it up for a safe EGT and the applications could be endless :)
If I could sorce a power turbine for the drive, I would be keen to design one of those things as long as i don't get blown up!!
I also found some other weird stuf on the net the other night. Try a search for 'Power Tool Drag Racing'
Came up with some crazy stuff like this: ttp://www.teamkiss.com/powertool/powertooldragrace4.html
Off their nuts!
If after all that tinkering you need a cold beer then this is for you

Yep... came across that one too.
I am quite sure there are much simpler ways to keep a beer cool without as much running cost :p

Here is a cool link to a home made turbojet engine using a GR-1 turbo charger and a little impressive back yard engeneering :)
http://www.rcdon.com/html/gr-1_turbojet_project_1_7_04_.html
Quite informative and has a video at the end of the competed engine running on propane gas.
I love the bit at the end where they cook a sausage in the exhaust output thrust.
