Radars in the Gun[U]
An article in the Melbourne paper explains how a person hired by the Bracks Government to test and assess the accuracy of radar guns, has been subpeoned to a court in Queensland, and has stated that to use such devices where a parked car, metallic objects in the line of site of the radar gun makes the ticket invalid. The Victoria Police manual, the Traffic Camera office manual and the manufacturers radar gun guidlines state that fines and charges should not proceed if the target vehicle is near other vehicles, metallic signs and objects such as light poles!! Based on his evidence it is clear that Victorian motorists are being fined and prosecuted using questionable images.
It goes onto saying that if his evidence is correct the Government has committed fraud on thousands of Victorian Motorists who have paid fines when they knew that the photographic evidence could not be relied upon.
The government reply - "It's a cheap attempt to politicise road safety"
The trouble is we automatically accept that technology is right and pay the fine, I have done this. I was 4 kilometres over and just paid it, perhaps it is time to make a stand.
