All,
I am kind of new around here, but certainly not new to Holdens. I consider myself to be a Holden man, but I did stray back in November 2003. I bought an XR6Turbo, which I do not regret, it was a fun car, but I am now back...Today, I took delivery of a new 6sp VZ Odyssey Clubsport.
I am not sure if I can mention names of sales staff or a dealer, but if anyone wishes to PM me for a top notch Sydney dealer, I found these people a pleasure to deal with, nothing was too dofficult for them and they bent over backwards to make sure I got the best deal possible.
I only have the following two pics - but that will certainly change. I will upload some more when I get back from the south coast on Monday. Too early to say anything except I farken love it, the sunroof is cool, all it needs is some dark tints and I will be happy...for a while ;)

I wish i could stop seeing pics of the VZ hsv range - the lure of the LS2 .Heart says yes head says no .hmmm.
Looks good crisso , however is that speedo as hard to read as it seems or just that part of the photo blurred ? (or maybe my eyes are stuffed :D )
Well done mate .

Fantastic service, and nice to see a dealer bending over and NOT bending the consumer over for a change.

I hate these questions because the answer is bloody obvious.
1. He worked his ass off for it. (most likely)
2. His parents bought it/helped him buy it. (less likely)
Im 2.. drive a new Monaro.. bought it myself.. worked my ass off for it.

Glad you've returned. Many of those XR6T forum members, no matter how much they wouldn't like to admit it, would love to be hammering their foot down in your new V8 clubsport.
The more I look at it, the more I want one. Keep posting those pics, ten of the same angle, who cares I don't mind.

Just a question? The two digital screens under the temp and fuel guages.. What do they display?

Thanks mate, will never regret getting the sunroof.
It depends what mode you are in. If you have the digital speedo on, they display nothing, if you have the odometer displayed, they display (left to right) temp and live L/100kms and if you are viewing distance to empty, the right one shows average fuel consumption.
Don't quote me on these, I only just got the car and have yet to read teh owner's guide :) Also, I tend to use the digitial speedo, so have not really taken much notice of the l/100kms thus far.
I will find out this arvo for ya.

Mate, hate to be the party pooper here but for the price of the LS2....i think the XR6T members would be hammering way past a Clubby...what i mean is for the price of the clubbie you could have a T that runs at least 2 seconds quiker 1/4 mile from just a couple of simple mods not to mention sounds freakin awesome...but the clubby is still a fantastic car..hope crisso has great fun in it!

True,
I could have saved myself a lot of coin and thrown a Phase II APS kit on my T, but I guess it comes down to personal preference. I wanted back in an 8, The XR8 did not do it for me, and I am a Holden man at heart.
I love the clubby, so you are not pooping my party ;) Nothing quite like an 8.

Andy, I posted a thread in the multimedia section of a Suzuki Metro (http://www.muchosucko.com/video-9secgeometro.html) doing a 9 sec quarter. Would have cost $10 000 all up ($500 for the car).
Could I interest you in a Suzuki Metro? Cheaper than your XR6T ;) :p

Myles mate, i dont drive a T...im an un-biased aussie car lover. Personly though i honestly believe the BA serious are fantastic...a big achievment for ford after the au. I dont like many holdens (except monaro, i think the SS sounds very dull compared to the BOSS engines) but i still like HSV's. The clubbys are a great car. So from this i have to say i guess im a ford fan....i dont want 100 people jumping down my throat on this holden forum...what ever you all say wont change my mind. But yeah hope you have a great time in the LS2 :)

I am not being defensive here, I owned a T for 18 months and loved it. But 522rwkw with only an edit??? i think not.
Jump on over to the T forum, great bunch of people over there willing to share info. The TT setup for the BOSS is about to be released, will be interesting to see how it compares to the TT LS1 setup.
A combined T and LS1/2 cruise or WSID meet would be interesting.
At the end of the day, there's always someone faster...enjoy your rides no matter what they are :)

BTW you cant really compare a ford to an HSV..and if u do compare a T to a CLubby that just shows how much mussle the T;s got. Once again hope u have a good time in your awesome new ride crisso!

Once again hope u have a good time in your awesome new ride crisso!I guess it's worth mentioning that forced induction isn't for everyone. Jump in an M3 and see how punchy and responsive a six can be without a turbo. And rwkw is not the be all and end all. How about torque? How low does it kick it and how hard do you have to push the engine to really get it going. Once you get addicted to having a lot of torque down low it's hard to go back to waiting for a hairdryer to kick in and help it along. Ford have got a great package with the BA sixes but like any comparison there are pros and cons on both sides. Where X really shines Y might fall short, and vice versa, and so on and so on. Anyway, I find it hard to believe Crisso will be thinking of owning a turbo 6 when he's driving that beast :)

agreed..never said he wouldn't..once again your comparing a normal ford to a top hsv..that is what im geting a bit scepticle about..theres no doubting whats a better car...stock xr6t or stock clubby..i would take clubby anyday. but when petople start comparing the two cars, for a start thats stupid as they are in differnet classes and second look at the price difference. By the way on the thing u said about torque. 1000NM for 320rwkw aint bad...90% avalible from 2000..anyways enough of this..goodnite

Stock for stock I think a fair comparison is the SS (which will eventually get the LS2). I don't know what figures you want to use as a basis for comparison, but if you look at the times for the SS, FPV GT-P, and FPV Typhoon (no XR6T, but it ran 0.2 faster than the Typhoon in 2003) in the Motor PCOTY 2005 issue, you'll see the SS recorded the best 0-100km/h time of the 3 and was only edged out by .03 over the quarter mile by the GT-P (which should be compared to the R8 which beat them all by around half a second).
At the end of the day, it all comes down to driver preference. Crisso picked a Clubsport and I doubt he's regretting it.

why not compare a xr6t to an ss? pretty much line ball...
better not compare a GT-P to an SS though, things might get a little embarrassing :)
Turbo is a different ball game, far easier to get cheap power out of one than NA.

Either this or your drug dealers. (didn't plant anything on Schapelle Corby by any chance or perhaps the Bali 9+ brigade?)
seriously i'm 28 and on $60000 a year and I could not afford a HSV Clubby, I pay $100 rent and the other associated bills obviously. Admittedly I binge drink $100 a weekend away at least, but certainly not every weekend, maybe three out of four max., so i dunno how these guys do it!

How do they do it? the world is a varied place - some people are born into money, some work their asses off, some are just lucky, and some people place driving a nice car further up the priorities list than the rest of us and are prepared to make sacrifices to do so.
Not trying to be a wet blanket, but the drug dealer reference is wearing a bit thin. :)

You can earn 600K a year and still have trouble with money. It depends how you manage it and how you look after it. Ive got mates who earn good money and live at home yet they cant save for shit!
Actually you gotta be ashamed of yourself earning 60K and not be able to get a new HSV...seeing how much you rent etc :p
I earn peanuts (tad over 31K a year) but I still manage to put away 1 K per month even though I pay about $400 a month in house running costs (rent + bills).

Well let me get this straight. 1xHSV Clubsport LS2 = $70000 approx. on road. 5 year term of loan, 10 percent interest = $1500 per month, fuel = $240 per month, insurance = $1500 per year, rego = $800 a year, running costs so it doesn't turn into a POS in the near future = god knows, but a damn lot.
These things aren't cheap to run, $3000 for brakes all round minimum ring a bell? Particularly taking into account how Holden try to change everything that dont need to be changed at a service also.
I theoretically could buy one, but hey, thats a lot of money for a car, and maybe even servicing wise it would be neglected from time to time.
Even working your arse off, you wouldnt be able to afford it, what would this guy be on at 24 years old? Hell I was on $25k back then, no way even with overtime I would be able to afford one!
It's not about managing money, it's the simple costs of everyday life mate. Add 'em up and you'd be suprised, I don't blow my money on anything else except a few drinks, don't gamble, don't smoke etc etc.
Crisso congrats on the car, i'm not having a go, I just often wonder how it all happens with the above restrictions tied with young age? You enjoy it, I know I would :burnout:

commercial hire purchase 3 year term, lets say 10k deposit, got them down to 65k onroad, 55k left, agree on 30k residual, get a nice medium to low 7% rate, youd be laughing.
insurance if you garage it and live in a decent area might be 2-4k depending a year, lets say 300 a month.
fuel 70 a week.
all it takes is a little research, a little willpower, and the urge to want one of these things. if you dont want it that bad, then dont worry. they are kind of a money drainer, but only if you dont see the value in them.
bad luck on being a lawyer though..too muhc work not enough money :)

Crisso congrats on the car, i'm not having a go, I just often wonder how it all happens with the above restrictions tied with young age? You enjoy it, I know I would :burnout:
have a good one
I think 240 for the fuel is an understatement :D 60 bucks a week for an LS2?
Yeah you pretty much summed it up nicely though... on 60K a year youd be roughly earning around 3,500 a month, clear. You can easily have that clubby provided you pay shit all for rent and other bills and dont have a mortgage.
BTW I am 24 now, nearly 25 and like I said I get bugger all, but Im on entry level wages.
Then again hardly anyone would buy a brand new HSV... get it through work!

commercial hire purchase 3 year term, lets say 10k deposit, got them down to 65k onroad, 55k left, agree on 30k residual, get a nice medium to low 7% rate, youd be laughing.
insurance if you garage it and live in a decent area might be 2-4k depending a year, lets say 300 a month.
fuel 70 a week.
all it takes is a little research, a little willpower, and the urge to want one of these things. if you dont want it that bad, then dont worry. they are kind of a money drainer, but only if you dont see the value in them.
bad luck on being a lawyer though..too muhc work not enough money :)
I'm not a lawyer, my next door neighbour is. I'm a civil engineering draftsperson (to be politically correct)
Anyhow, I just raised a point, i'm not gonna carry on with it, who cares, good luck to him....however he got it.

Well considering it uses crap all more fuel than an LS1 and I use $40 a week in mine, I thought that was close to the mark actually, I get 14L/100km on average around town, and I don't drive slow, spirited I would say.
Like I said, I probably could, (I have only just come onto $60k from $48k) but just all the running costs associated with it, I dunno. I won't never get it through work, don't really like asking favours like that, and also if something ever happens, or I want to leave, I wouldnt like that sort of hire purchase arrangement.
Anyhow like I said above, just brought up a point, another guy did too in here, earlier post, at the end of the day good on him if he did get it lawfully

You can earn 600K a year and still have trouble with money. It depends how you manage it and how you look after it. Ive got mates who earn good money and live at home yet they cant save for shit!
I earn peanuts (tad over 31K a year) but I still manage to put away 1 K per month even though I pay about $400 a month in house running costs (rent + bills).Well said. I've watched guys clearing $200K+ a year gamble and blow money like there's no tomorrow and wouldn't even have $1 left over at the end of the month. As soon as it comes in it's spent. Any situation where you're doing better than breaking even is a positive one so keep it up, you're doing well.

Not trying to be a wet blanket, but the drug dealer reference is wearing a bit thin. :)It's pretty common for neighbours, etc. to start gossiping like that. A lot of them should take a closer look at their own situation and see where they're wasting money that could probably help them afford a few more luxuries. It's a lot easier to jump to conclusions and assume they're doing something wrong when in reality they're just putting their head down, working hard, and being smart with their money. I've got a great deal of respect for disciplined people like that.

A mate of mine at age 22 has 25K cash saved while paying off a house with a family member.
He's the tight arse of all tight arses. Tighter than a mosquito's arse.
I've never seen so many vouchers in my life. His wallet can't even close with the vouchers piled up. At 22, and working for several years and saving, he could quite easily manage to buy a new HSV.
And lastly, using this friend as an example, he earns peanuts. Earns peanuts but probably saves more than someone who has it more like 'easy come, easy go'.
Being judgemental or jealous is ruining the shine off Crisso's ride. It doesn't bother me whether he has three jobs, or his uncle left him a lot of dough or his grandfather bought him another one, I'd be happy for him regardless.
Keep posting about your car Crisso. Good on you bud! :)

Dominik, yeah I try and save wherever I can. I dont buy alcohol when clubbing full stop, i try and avoid cover charge and i try and not eat out at all unles its special occasion and offcourse I dont smoke, this way i have been saving a good deal of money unlike many other people my age!
But I believe you have to find some way in which you can make money out of nothing, even if its misley 50 bucks a month. Investing is good, selling stuff which you get for nothing is good etc. Use your brains and you can pretty much get some dough rolling.

Hit the nail on the head.
When I got my new clubby, I didn't tell any of my friends about it. I'm so sick of people who turn their nose up in the air because i'm buying things they couldn't afford. Some of these people earn considerably more than I also, its just their spending habits preclude them from doing likewise. I spent 3 hard years at uni studying my hole off, never spent any money on smokes, booze, etc to get where I am. Some people will say "Thats not living", but hey, each to their own. Thats why I'm on my 3rd HSV at age 27, having just bought the VZ outright without a loan.
I'm not having a go at anyone, or trying to "rub it in". Everyone has different priorities in life and they should be respected for that. Some make more sacrifices than others, to get what they want. So be it.

Yeah exactly.
Like I got many friends, some are tighter than others.
I got one really tight ass mate, he will try and use others to get what he wants. The guy earns allright money working in IT, lives at home still and is nearly 25 yo. Sure he has HECS to pay off but thats nothing.
He will try and get rides of friends even though his family has two cars and he gets to drive a company car. For long distance travel hell say shit like "hey lets take ur car, ill try and get some petrol out of my company car"...
he does other shit which I wont go into but yeah... he has never had a car like me but Id like to buy one next year. I hate being dependent on other peoples cars... i guess he doesnt care...

Did mum and Dad pay for uni costs? Cause I know a 31 year old Lawyer (my next door neighbour) who still couldn't afford one!
Admittedly I binge drink $100 a weekend away at least, but certainly not every weekend, maybe three out of four max., so i dunno how these guys do it!
hahhaha Drug dealer??? How much do you want to buy? I've never taken any in my life let alone deal.
I finished uni at the age of 21 and started working full time. That's 5 years of working. I was lucky enough to get a job that let's me have the option of company car or novated lease. I'm actually in the I.T consulting so packaging a car is easy. I started off getting a VT berlina which costed me about 15K per year, then after that I changed to a 200sx which costed me about 17K, now finally the hsv which has set me back 22K per year. I've worked at this place for 5 years and each year my salary increases slightyly but the extra cash I have is effectively used to get a better car. Therefore my financial situation has not changed since I first begun.
So let's say I earn 80K for e.g. Car costs about 22K so my effective salary excluding car is 58K which I think most people can live comfortably with.
I live by myself and I am concious that my neighbours think that I am loaded because I am so young with a sports car in the front. To add to that my gf is always at my house and she gets a spanking new beamer every 3 or so months so what would the neighbours think? She can't afford buying a beamer but because she works for bmw she rents the car damn cheap. $300 a month. She's on a low wage but the perception it sends out are false.
Your next question might be:"how do you get your own home and a HSV"
answer:If you were lucky to invest in property 5 years ago then you would have a big grin on your face now :)
I agree that it's all in financial management and what your priorities are.
Anyways back to the topic. Nice car Crisso. I got my windows tinted yesterday and replaced all 4 tyres. Got the good year F1's which were like 2500. ridiculous price.

Guess some people just get jealous of what you can afford. The irony is I have never recieved a cent from my parents (their not bad people they just don't have the money) yet the so called "mates" I lost recieved hand outs all the time.
Only advice I could offer is get a partner! lol sounds bad but on a dual income (with no kids at this age) everything comes so much easier.

Come on guys, lets focus on the cars, not how someone can afford it.I agree how Crisso affords it is none of our business, but if others want to share their own experiences about how they afford something, I think that's great. Like V8ERUS said, it inspires people to sort out their own finances, work harder, save more, etc. Seeing how others do it is a great way to learn. It sures beats trial and error and finally figuring out how to do it 10 years later.
I spent 3 hard years at uni studying my hole off, never spent any money on smokes, booze, etc to get where I am. Some people will say "Thats not living", but hey, each to their own. Thats why I'm on my 3rd HSV at age 27, having just bought the VZ outright without a loan.

So be it.Great story. As you said re: living, each to his own, everyone has different priorities, but if you want to have nice things in your 20's you usually have to make some sacrifices, which you did. I've got a lot of respect for that. Re: neighbours, I guess it also depends on where you're living. On the Gold Coast for example no one will jump to any conclusions about you owning a HSV because there are a lot of young entrepreneur types driving nice cars down there, but in most of the suburbs there's a good chance they'll start thinking you might be cheating in some way.

The way IT grads are pooring out of uni these days, I suspect not many will be able to afford a HSV in future. They're quick becoming the factory workers of the 21st century. It's already happening. But there are still a lot of opportunities if you've got the ideas, technical knowledge, marketing savvy, and I suppose the determination and guts to take a few risks starting up something from scratch. With the Internet, you can build sites that can seen by a billion pairs of eyes. Think about it. In years gone by that was an audience that only huge multinational corporations like Coca Cola and Sony or television networks could tap into with their billions of dollars. Now teenage whiz kid types are doing it.
I guess my point is, no matter how flooded the field becomes locally there's nothing stopping you from having a crack at those billion people online worldwide. My advice to anyone sick of their IT job is to visit Amazon.com, buy a few books (maybe one a fortnight), brush up on whatever information you need to run your own show, register a few domains, get a web hosting account, and start experimenting. Anyone who thinks there's no money to be made out there isn't looking hard enough. A billion mice all clicking away. You do the math. And while I type this the Internet keeps growing.

You have no idea what I own or what my financial status is, that's my point, it's not your business to ask how I can, or in the case may be, can't afford something. Unless you're a parent or perhaps a good mate it's just one of things best left out of conversation, unless the person in question brings it up or in the case Dominik metioned it is infact the topic of conversation.
All smilies a laughs aside if I were in a position where I could only afford a VH SLE, the comment you made above could be quite insulting.
Anyway, the intent of my original post was only to try and get people off asking if someone's mummy and daddy paid for uni or were they a drug dealer, and get back to Crisso's sweet Clubby, which I had been hoping to see the last few days I had been opening this thread.

Mate, the whole idea of a forum is to build a close community of like minded people whose goal is to achieve something similar. I think knowing how to manage your finances or how to get more $$$ is very relevant topic to this board, more money = better, faster cars. If you think that we shouldn't discuss this then your a very insecure person, generally. If you feel violated when it comes to discussing things like money or women then maybe you should keep clear.

If you want to discuss how people finance their cars, to work out which is best, sweet, start a thread that's not headed "Odyssey VZ Clubby - I took delivery", perhaps "What's the best finance option" would be the go, infact if memory serves its poped up not that long ago. And, if you actually believed what you wrote about building a close community of like minded people, perhaps you wouldn't be so rude.

This is the exact reason why I really want to make it even more! :)That's the right attitude. I think my old man once pointed out to me that the typical Aussie will see someone doing well and want to put them down in some way like "f***ing rich bastard" and be all bitter whereas the typical American will think "man, that's what I want!" and feel inspired, working even harder to get there.
Here's my take on it... I've met people before who got a BMW for passing science. I don't think it's healthy to be bitter toward people like that (as much as your gut feeling is they don't deserve it or didn't earn it fair and square); it's better to just tell yourself "I want that but I'd rather earn it." That's how I feel. I reckon half the fun in life is earning something and feeling that sense of pride in having reached those goals through hard work. The people who get it the easy way (a present from rich parents for example) never enjoy it half as much as they're letting on... the novelty soon wears off and they often feel empty. They can't value it as much. Anyway, just keep setting goals and enjoy working toward them.

For the record, I am not a uni grad, I don't sell drugs, I work 6 days a week, still have plenty of fun, am not a tight ar$e, was not born into money, highly regard the vehicle I drive and I spend so much time in during the course of a week.
thanks for your conerns though :)

crissoCrisso, don't let it bother you, it was all harmless and quite interesting actually. Post a few pics of the Clubby every few weeks and people will talk about it, guaranteed. re: finance talk, it's only normal human behavior to be curious and since the nuts and bolts of how people afford these cars isn't discussed very often, threads like this kind of fuel that curiosity. That's my take on it anyway.

It doesn't really bother me :)
I don't want the thread kicked though.

Crisso,
If it wasn't for these replies then this thread would probably be in page 2 or 3 by now. Free 'bumps' for ya. :D
Intercepter, it might be a good idea to start a "how did you buy your car" thread in the forum bar if it interests you. It might be a personal question to a lot of people but there are plenty out there who are more than happy to share their experience.
