if people dont know Dreck he races V8 holdens and trust me he knows what he is talking about. Check his web site www.hockingracingshop.net. and you wont be disappointed.I will never take my car anywhere else.

That doesnt surprise me that Holden havent touched your car in 4 years. Can you elaborate a bit more on what he found?

mixing different brands of brake fluid never changed just keep topping up,had to bleed all the brakes to clean the mixed brake fluid.Spark plugs were the original from day one, very bad condition, clutch fluid very dirty, radiator fluid not flushed, fan belt very bad condition. He has no idea what engine oil holden used but very poor quailty, the biggest suprise of all was the oil fliter it was changed but it was only hand tight and if that come off say good bye to your engine. Next service check gear box oil and diff oil.Turst me i was there for the whole service saw everything.
I will be taking my invoices back to holden and a please explain! ask for refund as i paid for the service and not much was done.

Thats the first thing I show anyone that thinks they get a good service at Holden (open up the air filter box)

GEN III might be different but I have always put the oil filter on 'hand tight' on all of my cars.

Yep, me too. LS1 is no different. No point in overtightening them.

does that mean when u change the oil filter u can unscrew it with your hands thats what the problem was.

I have always gone with the "hand tight + 2/3 to 3/4 extra turn" theory. That's what the filter usually tells me to do so I do it.

Yes, I can unscrew mine by hand. Particularly handy
considering the lack of room for a filter tool around
the LS1 filter :) No pun intended.

Edit: I overtightened mine with my hands once.
Took much swearing and cursing to get the bloody
thing off next service. Ended up using a leather
belt wrapped around it for leverage and grip.

At my 20k service, I was told that the brake fluid would need changing at the next service, so knowing that, I will make sure it gets done.
I also make sure that the oil change is done using Mobil 1.
So I suppose the point here is, come service time, don't just drop yer car off and hope for the best. Tell ya dealer exactly what you want and what you expect. Still, there's dealers and there's dealers...

Heh, I found a cigarette butt in mine  not happy jan.

I get mine service by my local mechanic whom I've know for years and years and well yo get the drift. No stuffing around from him, Need to book one week in advance so he must be doing something right by his customers :D

So when you go in and say I want Mobil 1 oil every service, how do you know thats what your paying for. There was reports on here some time ago about HSV dealers charging a "premium" for Mobil 1, but unsing something else.
Unless people sit in the workshop watching every minute, your not going to know the full story.
How much do people trust their Holden dealer??????

So true!

You would have no idea what and WHAT THEY DON'T do come service time. I foolishly paid extra for Mobile 1, now how the hell would I know it's in there without calling Greg from CSI??

Gonna use F1 for my servicing from now on.

Edit: Ooops! My bad, Greg is a field man now, i'll have to call that new guy!

all my cars and bikes ,hand tight only(put some back bone in it but hand tight)i had to pull the full fairing off to get a oil wrench on to the oil filter on my bike(oil filter between the extracters )now as easy as last week to change it by hand.

i usually clean off the part the seal touches on the engine... wipe the oil filter seal with new oil... screw it in until the seal touches... then tighten it by hand a further 2/3 to 3/4 of a turn...
that way, in 3 months time when i come to chance it again, the filter can still be undone by hand... it will be a bit tight, but possible to undo...
if you do it up with a filter tool, there's a good chance that the same tool won't be able to undo it down the track, as for some reason they're always easier to tighten that undo...

as for dealer servicing... i work in a dealership (not holden) and you get good mechanics, and bad mechanics... some guys are too worried about meeting service times and couldn't give a stuff about the car as long as they meet the set time for that particular job.... others couldn't give a stuff about the service times as long as they know the customer is getting exactly what they pay for...
its not too cheaky to go to your holden dealer, ask to see the workshop foreman and ask him which tech he'd have work on his own car... then if he say's ohh i'd pick jimbob over everyone else in the workshop, ask for jimbob to service your car and only jimbob...
if jimbob gets to service your car every time it comes in then there's a chance he'll take a lot more care of it and look after it a lot more.

good luck getting any money out of that holden dealership. how many kms has the car done, as for spark plugs, they looked ....ed at approx 30k-40k, and they even test ....ed at those kms. there coolant flushes they just drop the bottom hose, and just fill up,and change only have of your coolant capacity, and thats true service times, gen 3 are supposed to be at under 35 degrees before removing spark plugs, there known to pull threads out of heads. u just got a bad workshop. theyre nearly all apprentices, that drive 120y's and dont care about the cars. for u guys that need new car servicing, pick a reputible company, speak to friends, nearly any mechanic business can do new car servicing, good luck....
