Hi All,

I would like to know if anyone else has had this experience with their P Zero's thanks.

The tyres have just clocked 20,000kms (surely they would last a little longer?). The tyres feel unsteady mainly at lower speed, when cold and if the road is uneven ie when bitumen is patched. They were okay until after a 3000km trip at an average speed of 110kms (NT leg was 145kms steady). From what I can gather they aren't the longest wearing tyre and they are great at stopping, gripping and ride AND I swear I haven't been doing anything illegal with them!

Interested in other's thoughts and experiences with these as they are going to need replacing. Any suggestions for a good tyre that will take the odd long distance trip?

Cheers Savvy.

Well done on getting 20K outta them :D replaced mine with Yokies V102's, bloody great tyre, would of put these back on but got the Dunlop SP9000's for a really good price. Now have another set on, cheapo's, but have to test em out for the price ;)
So far, my pic for a 245/35/19 is most definitely the v102's :D

My original P-Zeros lasted 24,000 kms on the back of the GTS (even wear across tyres) and the next set on the rear - Bridgestone S03s lasted 25,000 kms (worn in middle, sides still OK). The fronts have so far done 52,000 kms and have a few thousand to go (again wearing evenly). For the last 10,000 kms or so they have had moderate to severe tramlining problems.

Im up to about 14,000km on my Pzero. About 40-50% left. Rotate ever 7500kms
I find the cornering grip awesome and general/wet grip is great.
Only ever used B530's before this tho, so that is my benchmark.

Look after them (ie rotaring etc and pressure) and they will last you a good while however keep in mind they are a performance tyre and not a bedrock special that will last 60 to 80 k.

The tram lining is more likely a trade off from the wheel (19") I assume as the rolling diameter is lager than an 18 ( have meassured this 23mm diff) and will have a tendancy to track in road grooves etc.

Been through 8 x 19" P Zeros here. No complaints except the $

35 000km from the first set with good even wear and only rotated front to back once or twice. Spare never used.
On fitting the second set no wheel alignment was carried out and these have now got 35 000 on them as well. Rotated front to back only once. Spare never used.
All city driving with no donuts obviously.

Have noticed the tramlining and low speed doey feel on uneven roads in last few thousand k's.
Saving up for a new set at the moment.

I had mine filled with nitrogen last week @ Bob Janes - nitrogen is far better at maintaining a lower tyre temperature, and also better at maintaining a constant pressure unlike O2, the result being longer wear and more even wear across the treadface.

With O2 in them, the HSV tyre pressure gauge was always pointing out that 1 or 2 tyres were low in pressure, so far with the nitrogen there has been no pressure loss and they are sitting at a constant 44psi.

I reckon if most motorsports categories use the stuff it must be good. I also used nitrogen in my last R8 and the SO3's lasted 39k including about 6 track days.

Somebody wasn't paying attention during Science Class.

Don't confuse 02 with air.

Thanks everyone very much appreciated.

Tramlining! That's what I was trying to articulate. The Zero's have nitrogen in them.

YIIR8 - have you lined up against The Heat?

A bit O/T, but my OE 17" Bridgestones on my SV8 lasted 70,000km before I *forced* myself to replace them ('cos the car was going out of lease). They still had heaps of tread and handled great. I know this isn't a direct comparison with performance 18" and 19" tyres, but basically if they are rotated regularly, checked regularily, aligned regularly and don't drive stoopidly (all the time), they will last a LONG time.

My car is used mainly for highway driving and towing. I've seen other guys with the same car/tyre (other leased cars), who were lucky to get 15,000km out of theirs .. city driving, etc.

BTW: The craptacular 15" light-truck tyres on my Falcon one-tonne were lucky to get 40,000km being driven in a similar fashion. So much for the "softer" tyre wearing out quicker? [ those Goodyear Cargo S light truck tyres are junk!!! ]

Care to let us know how Ks you got out of each and how you rate the P Zero, V102 and SP90000 against each other (I note you rate the V102 number 1) ?

Thanks

pzero's = 17k and way past tread wear indicator, overpriced crap.

v102's = approx 30k, very good, hung to the road wet or dry.

sp9000's = approx 30k, not bad, didn't grip as well as the v102's + bit noisy.

So far my pick is most definitely v102's :)

So far my pick is most definitely v102's :) I agree regarding the PZERO, I have done 10000ks on them so far and although they have around 80% tread left on them they are the most over-rated rubber I have ever had, hence the plenty of tread left, I dont have the confidance to push them.

I had the SO3's on the Gto and they were preety good. I have now put Michelin Pilot sports on at the back and they are a great tyre. Great grip in dry and wet and they aren't noisy at all. Ive only done 3000km's with them so i cant tell ya how long they last. Cost an arm and a leg but are worth it if your after a good tyre.

Just as an interest can you PM me the price to fill with nitrogen at Bob Jane.

Its not worth pumping the tyres with nitrogen when 95% plus of the vehicles on the road use air, a marketing gimmick.

Wear depends on driver, car setup and compound softness.

Our workplace has many customers who come in with Pirelli tyres on their HSVs or luxury Euro cars and for the price you pay, the wear is very poor though they do stop, handle and drive adequately.

If I were in the market for a tyre which did wear well and performed above board, it would be the F1 GSD3, proven by numerous reviews, just see Tirerack.com, best bang for the buck, have driven on a set of 19s for 3 months, grip is awesome in the wet.

When spending big dollars on a Pirelli, might as well buy better such as Michelin Pilot Sport Cups or semi comp tyres imo.

I had P zero's on my VXGTS (19" trye),,,I was never really confident in the wet with them,,,I think they are over priced and dont wear well,,,or even, I got Bridgestone Potenza S-03 from local Bridgestone dealer for $250 less per tyre than Pirelli. Bridgetsone gave me service book with the purchase and will do a straight front to back rotate every 10,000k and full tyre spin on rim and rotate every second 10,000 k for free for life of tyres,Have only done 10,000 k so far and they are noiser than Pirelli but a lot better grip I belive in both wet and dry.
