Ken,

Just read the Harrop review article and the following caught my eye -

Stroker crank - 383 or 427 with block liner upgrade

Liner upgrade of LS1 block for use with stroker crank for 427 capacity

Is this available? If so how much? And what does it consist of?

There was a rumour that Harrop were going to develop a 454 LS1 stroker, is this true?

Appreciate any information you can provide

Cheers

Hi ...
The machining and sleeving of the blocks to 4.125" has been done and has proven successful, but it is still in it's durability testing phase. One of the test engines had a glitch (not sleeve related) and is being rebuilt to continue testing. The cost is under $4000 (+ honing) fitted to a donor block supplied by the customers.

The stroker crank we have made (1st production batch being machined now) is a nodular iron unit with a 4.000" stroke. It's price is $1,595 inc GST.

454ci ... maybe. "Watch this space" ... ;)

:D

I know somebody that will take one of those 427 off your hands...unless the 454 becomes a reality...... ;)

Is that the one where the timing chain broke and took out the head/pistons etc at Calder during a drive day? :(

Does harrop assemble the engines or just supply parts? what would a turn key 427 be worth? or at least, how much extra on a 410 stroker?

cheers

We 'typically' supply the components to engine builders, although we have done a quite few race engines ourselves (Tasman Motorsport) :D .
We are not very price-competitive for road-car engines as we tend to build them as if they are race-engines ... Neil Burns does the deed.

What are they worth ... too hard to answer without knowing what is required (intended use, durability expectation, budget etc ;) ).

playing hard to get i see. i can respect that! ;)

I just meant say a base 383, its approx an extra $1500 for 410, and its approx $???? for 427.

cheers

I got the impression that it is around $4k for sleeved block + $1550 for crank to have the foundation for a 427 motor.
So maybe $20 - $22k for a turn key???

Sorry ... I'm still not really sure of the question (I'm a bit dim on Saturdays) ...

A 383ci is standard bore stroked to 4.000"
A 410ci is ??
A 427ci is stroked and sleeved.

4" stroke crank is ~$1600,
Sleeved block is ~$4000,
Pistons, rods, rings, bearings gaskets, ancillary bits ...????

I think G&D and Sam's Performance both have some prices quoted in their threads.

It's a big step $$$ wise from 383/410 to 427. Probably close to $10k over a 383, depending on what parts you add of course.

dont worry mate i know how it is. im like that too, and unfortunately its not restricted to just saturdays! :) what i was meaning is that:

A base 383ci is standard bore stroked to 4.000".
A 410ci is a 6L block with 4.000" stroke. approx $1500 extra for the block
A 427ci is stroked and sleeved.

If the Sleeved block is ~$4000, does that mean that you could build a '383 package' using the sleeved block and get 427ci?

Wouldnt that make it approx an extra $4000?

I realise final price will be dependent on Pistons, rods, rings, bearings gaskets, and ancillary bits, but then again what motor isnt.

I was just thinking about a comparison between similiar setups, just one with 383 cubes and one with 427.

If I understand the question ... Yep, a 383 can become a 427 with a ~$4k sleeved block (& new pistons).

Excellent! thankyou!

is there any reason why the other components (pistons etc) would cost more than for the 383?

Im sorry if my questions seem abit  but , im just trying to get an idea from someone who knows truck loads more than me!

i appreciate it! :)
