Does anyone know if the Flip-up console storage box is only for the VZ or will it fit in a VYll. I have a VYll and would love to get the extra storage as I have a ute.
Also if you know that it fits do you know how to fit it.
Thanks in Advance. :)

I don't know if it fits or not, but I can tell ya that I never use it. It gets so hot in there, I swear if I threw in some mixture a cake would pop out.

lol and with the 6 stack unit underneath, you'd get a burnt cake too!

It's pretty shallow, I can't even fit my sunnies in there! :(
I just keep my wallet in it!
But I think you would have to fit a VZ Stereo/climate control surround, it is different to the VY, and it looks like one piece! :p

how come i own a VZ SS and dont have this storage box anyways?
I think we are talking about two different things.
I reckon the flip up lid is the Berlina and up unit which is located next to the fast glass switches. On the SS and below this is a rather ugly cup holder.
Yes the lid will retrofit. I understand its available in two colours. Semigloss black for everything bar the Berlina which is metalic grey.
Monaro, Adventra, HSV, Calais and Staties are all the black.
One thing to keep in mind, if you do the conversion to a car without climate control you will not have any cup holders (climate comes with the groovy flick out jobs).
To any parts guys or dealer people, will the Berlina one be an exact colour match to my 05 SV8 console surround?

Only comes with climate control (and leather). Mine is fixed too as I have only got cloth seats.

I am not really certain what people are referring to here but I think that two things are being discussed:
1. The flip up lid on the dash immediately above the climate control. I don't think that this will fit previous models without changing the trim around the climate control; and
2. The flip open lid found in the centre console on the VZ Calais and HSVs. You cannot fit this to a VZSS, don't know about previous models. I tried to get this fitted by my dealer when I bought the car and it won't fit without cutting the centre console. The bin goes in, you just can't open the lid.

The upgraded centre console (including climate control, fancy cup holders and storage bin) was included as standard on SS's built after Feb '05.

On the SS and below this is a rather ugly cup holder. Just put the cover on it that is supplied when the car is new, then you have a nice little tray.

Yeah it took me a while to find that tray, which was hidden that large pull up console, at the back! :o
Sorry I thought we were talking about the compartment on top of the stereo earlier too!

I am not sure what others were talking about but my original question was about the flip up lid compartment on top of the dash above the climate control and stereo etc.
Thanks for your inputs it seems the VZ extra wont fit into a VYII.
Cossmo - Now we know the compartment you are talking about. When your thread mentions console I dont immediatly think of the dash top!
Compartments, I suppose its good we have so many at our disposal. Imagine trying to sort this tread out for a Ford Territory, they have over 20
As for the cover which goes over the cup holder in the lower spec cars, what can I say! I thought it was bu#% &*it when I read it until today. I was stuck in traffic and thought I would investigat further. I immediatly found the rubber cover and on it went. Cant believe I'd missed it.

What cover are we talking about here and where do I find it..
Cashie - Your about were I was before my little search.
Lift up the centre armrest and look inside the bin. You should find a rubber cover sitting across-ways toward the rear just above the power outlet. This underwhelming thing is designed to cover over the cup holder next to the power window switches. Can't believe someone would bother engineering it!
Just checked your sig. VZ 'S' ute, you will definitely have it. VY's also have it.

Thanks for that abi, I agree that I also can't believe someone engineered it, has anyone actually found it useful?
I toyed with it there for the rest of the trip home and then put it back where it came from.
I'm still hopeing someone on the forum can confirm the Berlina lid colour match to Exec, Acclaim and SV8/SS surround.

Thanks for this and the others who gave hints that I was too obtuse to work out. Can't say that it is the greatest thing about the vehicle but it is useful to know it is there.
