VT SS and VT SS series 2 are neglected from both restricted car lists. Are they legal, or will they inform over the phone that they are not?

I was told the VT SS with the 5.0L was not on the list as it was just marginally under. I just find it weird the VT SS series 2 with the 5.7 isnt on the list considering the huge amount of Holden and HSV listings in the pdf's.....

Also, are any model stateman with a v8 p plate legal? or is only the supercharged models? I would have thought their weight would be an advantage in terms of 125kw \ tonne.

I'd call, but its 4.30am :p

Hey mate,
Ive been through this personally hundreds of times as Im a P plater with a CV8 and all police worry about is the power to weight rule.
So if your car has more then a 125kw per tonne then you'll get done although if you get a heavier car like a statesman, grange, etc and you put extra weight into it like a stereo, bigger wheels, etc and then go and get the car weighed at an engineers and get the certificate of how much the car weighs and then you take that to VicRoads or keep the certificate of weight on you for when police pull you over and just explain it to them. Also dosen't hurt if you call around the university's and see who has a vehicle weight machine and get the car weighed with you and some other friends in there :D

Hope this helps,
Adz

Who said I did the pwr to weight test?
When the car gets weighed I would recommend that it has a driver in the car whilst being weighed and also its not a test, you can go to most uni's and get your car weighed up and get them to print out something to show how much it weighs.

Btw. its the stock weight. I know most 5Ls are allowed on your Ps with exception to a couple of the early (VS-VN) execs etc.. Not to sure with the LS1s.

I don't have personal experience with owning a V8, though from what I've head and been told, as long as your responsible with your car, the police aren't going to pursue you terribly. Although SS decals might attract unwanted attention.

How much kw do the 5lt's have in VTSS form?
Police will barely even notice you it's the TMU or toggies you gotta steer clear of!
I would be ripping those badges off quickly but after all it's only a $90 fine with no d/points but still once they know they can get you for something they will pursue you no matter how you drive the car but everyone's experiences differ.

VTSS series 1 was 179kw but had a HSV option of 195kw.

One thing you might want to consider is insurance, if you got a nasty accessor he might knock back a claim as they may say legally you should not have been driving it, just something to think about.

Oh yeh, never thought of that drewie
Well thats well over the 125kw/tonne rule, ouch!
Are you looking at buying one of these cars zeggie? If so, you should have a look at the super6's.

Get a 5Lt Berlina or Calais that's my opinion. Less hassles from the police, don't know about insurance though.

Yes, am looking at a VT SS series 2 or possibly VT clubsport series 2.

Not interested in the super6, have driven one and not as exciting as my current supra i drive. I realize with a pulley upgrade and around 10psi they are good, but that money is better spent on the ls1, as i hear from many. The ls1 is a lot of fun.

May be a case of going to vicroads and finding out legalities from them direct, and possibility of exemptions, as I'm in the financial position to buy a car now (shite, i already have 2) and do not really want to wait 11 months till I'm 21. My supra has a spidge over 200kw at the wheels currently so I'm not a stranger to fast cars.

Unlikely to get an exemption however because i do have access to other slow cars. Can anyone share experience with getting a work high-power exemption? They would obviously check what other cars are registered in your name, do they also check cars at your residence?

So have you personally done this and presented the engineers certificate to vicroads? If so what was said? And what have police said if you have been pulled over?

Vic Roads will accept an Engineer's Certificate without question. (The onus is on the Engineer to be issuing an accurate/legitimate certificate and the owner to not submit a fraudulent certificate) On the basis of the Certificate, they'll update the vehicle details per any amendments covered on the Engineer's Certificate.

EG. A mate bought a 3 seat Ex Telstra Troopy at Auction in Vic, fitted the RV rear seat and had to have an Engineers Cert to register it. He submitted the Cert to Vic Roads, details were updated on their computer system, the vehicle was registerd as a 6 seater, his TAC (CTP) premium was based on the vehicle being registered as a 6 seater, not as per the original 3 seats when it was manufactutred.

Once Vic Roads update their system and Police subsequently do a car check, (they access the Vic Roads System) they will access the current details per Vic Roads computer records and it is these records that they will base their decision to issue an infringement or not re exceed 125 kw/tonne power restriction.

This is not necessarilly true. If you have an Engineer's Certificate issued certifying a different weight for your vehicle and the cars weight is updated on the registering authority's system (eg. RTA NSW etc.) then it is the weight of the particular vehicle as it is registered which is used in any calculations.
