Two words "Heat sink".

Get a proper HSV Maf pipe which has been properly desinged and tested.

Or an OTR for the ultimate in appearance and power. :D

They look pretty!!

But as far as heat goes - I imagine they would retain a sh!tload of it.. and keep intake temps nice and high. Consider where it is located..I.e very close to the exhaust and radiator.. bucketloads of heat there.

Great for looks.. not so great for performance IMO.

I have to say, I tried one of these from Azza's car.. you could really feel the difference... the midrange improvement was HUGE.
but thats going from a stock maf pipe to that one..
if you're worried about heat I suppose you can always get it ceramic coated or heatwrap it.

Incoming air has such a velocity that it would not take much if any heat from a MAF tube. Warm air inducted from the engine bay is far more a problem which only the OTR design likely solves. The HSV pipe does move the IAT sensor away from the radiator so it doesn't get cooked. I believe that helped my car on hot days - loses far less urge after idling in traffic.

I reckon it looks horn, but alignment might be an issue if it's not welded carefully. Then again, my HSV MAF tube doesn't line up real well, either. Needs an expansion joint, though - to avoid pulling off the airbox due to engine movement.
