Yeah mate that really does suck, they are saying that these days you should hide your keys and not leave them laying around in the house. This happens a lot these days, as is the only way most kids can have a joy ride in decent cars. My ex's BMW M3 was taken the same way, but they also took a few nice things in the house as well.... Hope they find it soon for ya mate...

The number plates Are MAT... It was last seen doing 180km/h at doonside heading towards penrith (the cops were chasing it and called off the chase.) it only had 30kms fuel in it so unless they did a servo run it couldn't be too far. the funny thing was i took my fathers car down the shopping centre because i was scared someone would steal it there! i never thought that it would get stolen from my front yard in daylight!

What an utter POS they are. Effin scum bags.
Our society is far too lenient on thieving scum. Even when they are caught, what do they receive, bit of community service?
Although I'd hate to live in a society where the form of punishment for stealing is to lop hands off, when I read things like that happening, I can't help but feel that's what they deserve. At least in a community where the punishment is beating, maybe even where everyone takes turns to give the stealing scum a kick in head, your car might be safe there.
Sorry to hear the bad news Mathew. Sad part is, it's your car today and it'll be someone else's tomorrow. :soap:

Mathew,
Mate on the forums from time to time we read about poor bastards getting their pride and joy nicked, It pains me to see these MF's get away with it.
I ask of you, we never really get to see the end result of the theft in regards to the insurance claim. I have never had a car nicked nor do I know anyone who has (probly cause most of my mates drive shit boxes :D (side note; they are the ones who have 100's of thousands of $ tied up in shares, but I have a nice car))
Anyway would you mind keeping us updated on the insurance claim process.
who is your insurance company? I cant think of any reason why you should not tell us who it is, but if you want to keep it private, I would understand, if anyone else can think of a reason not to tell us please speak up.
Is the insurance mob going to pay market value or new cost, my insurance (Suncorp) will replace the vehicle with a brand spanker if its totalled in the first 2 years. Your post says your car was a VY SS, if they replace it it would have to be a new VZ wouldn't it? :D
How long before you get the readys in your pocket?
Did you have any aftermarket or personal gear in the car? is this covered?
OK just read through my post and someone could read into this that I am considering a insurance job on my car  this is not the case!! I just would like to see the outcome in action, after paying thousands over the last 15 years into various insurance policys.
I could get alot of the answers from the "glossy Policy booklet" but it would be interesting to see how things pan out here in the "real" world
Thanks
Scotty

This is becoming a trend I think, it has been happening for a while in the UK, people follow home wait till you go out and steal your keys.
Heard of people waking up in the morning (UK) to find cars had gone along with keys, they had beeen sitting on tables etc close to the front door and stolen through letter boxes or easily opened windows.
Lesson Number 1 people take your keys to bed lol or put them in a safe place where they cannot easily be found mind you some of these mongrels will come a looking so sometimes maybe its better just to let them find them easily if you have kids or partners that could get hurt in the process.
Anyway good luck mate, personally I would not want to see it again as the gits have probably trashed it and thrashed, bit like a car in accident - it can be made right but sort of never feels the same

They just walked up knocked on the door for 1min then they smashed a glass sliding door on the front of my house then walked in walked out.
if only i had not left the keys at home they would have mostlikey been caught because lucky i have good neighbours and they called the cops straight away (before they broke in) and the police were there within 3mins they came into my street about 1min after my car left.
Then i pulled up 10mins later and the first thing the police asked HAS IT GOT A TRACKER! no :bash: hwp are chasing it at 180km/h.
The thing i did wrong was i had been catching the train to work all week and it has been sitting it the same spot all week so they must have thought i was on holidays and a easy steal. i should have parked it in a different spot everyday.
I will let you no what happens with insurance but the car is just over 2years old so theres no way i will get a replacement but i had it on agreed value so i should get that.
Thanks again guys i recommend getting a Tracker fitted to your car

You sure? I wouldn't think a car fire would even hurt an exhaust. Maybe blacken it. It is metal and has exhaust temps of like 600C at the cats going thru it.
Good luck with a replacement car.

small consolation but if it makes you feel any better at least you get to choose a new car when the insurance money comes through...

I always take my car keys with me when I leave the car at home. It has the house keys attached, so it's a must have even before I leave.
I'm now gonna make sure that I turn the house alarm on EVERY time I leave too. Sometimes I forget.
The scary thing is, Blacktown is basically just down the road from where I live.
On another note, I find it amazing that the cops called off the chase.
They usually call ahead and continue to follow.

Too much bad PR of late I reckon.... NSWPol don't need another pack of no-hoper, dole-scamming druggies rioting because their useless mates did the gene-pool a favor and wrapped themselves around a power-pole..
Sorry to hear about your car mate.. Hopefully you can salvage the exhaust. Hate to say it, but I'd rather see it wrapped around a pole with body-bags next to it than burnt.. at least they'd never put anyone else thu what you've gone thru.
It's kind of ironic in a sad way.
10 years ago you had to make sure your car was locked safely in the garage so no-one could steal it.
Now it doesn't matter where the actual car is - You've got to make sure the keys are locked safely in a secure place.
For everyone out there that hides their car keys under the fruit bowl, go to your local locksmith, and splurge on a safe. They are well worth the money, and the peace of mind they provide, knowing your valuables are SAFE makes the outlay well worth it on so many levels.
Ours is big enough to fit the Video Camera, Laptop, Digital Camera and Lenses, car keys, jewellery, important papers etc......

Hahahahaha, my neighbour is a locky by trade, he can get into any safe. That is why we all insure our goods, nothing is safe !! Had his car stolen with all the cracking gear in it, sign writing all over it and the police did'nt care about his vehicle. Gee, thats a great response :bash:
Another mate in IT, can crack passwords etc.
Never had a car pinched yet but it will prob happen one day, unfortunately its life these days.
Getting to a point where life sucks.

That's right. Nothing is really safe. If thieves want your car, no matter what extremes you go to in order to protect it, they will get it in the end. They will put it on a tilt-tray tow truck if they have to.

This is a sad piece of news. There is no lower form of life then a car thief. It makes you reluctant to have a nice car. A few weeks ago I was considering upgrading to a Maloo from the VU SS. The missus was happy with the idea, and I was all but convinced to go ahead with it. I finally found an insurance quote that was reasonable, but the thing that stopped me was the fact that I would be reluctant to park it anywhere. I finally decide that it was a much better idea to keep the SS and throw a little bit of money at it just to keep me interested.
The idea of putting your car keys on a big dog wouldn't work either as the bastards would just poison your dog and then steal your car.
