This is a tale of a very bad week and an incident(s) that I hope won't happen to anyone (if this gremlin does creep into your car you'll know what it is!)
After finishing a 24 hour "duty" shift on a submarine in dry dock on the Monday just gone morning (its now 7:00 am Tuesday), and after pretty much no overnight sleep due to nil aircon and the submarines batteries being changed out overnight, and after being relieved 30 minutes late (a sailors pet hate), rocked upto my vehicle, pressed door unlock button - no reply. Pressed it a few more times - still no sound of doors unlocking. Hmmm - how vexing. Unlocked car with key and opened drivers side door, alarm activates. Still pressing buttons on key, alarm creating a bit of attention (particularly from the lads who drive/push Fords).
Open door again, alarm goes off again, insert key into ignition, no difference, try to start engine, it turns over for 1 sec then shuts down, alarm still blaring. Had enough now, rang Holden Assist, they send out the RACWA. Dude turns up 40 mins later (in a Ford - dammit), tries everything I tried (alarm pissing off other people now), scratches his chin, ums and ahs, gets out a few handy hits books, pulls 10 amps alarm fuse a few times, alarm won't reset etc.
"Ok mate, it has to be towed" reaches my disbelieving ears. Fair enough, who needs sleep anyway ( it was the start of a "day off"). It is now 8:15 in the a.m. Surely not long to wait, there are 2 big Holden dealerships no more than 15 minutes drive from my location (Tenix, Henderson, WA).
1:00pm - after about 10 phone calls to Holden Dealer, Holden Assist, the towing company, a truck (another damned Ford) finally arrives. Yee..........hah.
Fast forward to Thursday, after another 2 days of phonecalls to Holden finding out what is going on etc, they deduced the problem to the body control module, of which none where available in WA. You don't realise how much you miss ya car (especially when you live 45 mins from work), so to finally pick it up on Thursday arvo with most of the agro about waiting so long for a tow truck, the bcm etc, had dissipated. Even after going to and from work everyday with a mate (in a Ford), and copping heaps off shit from Ford drivers accross our great nation. Threw bag in car, sat in seat, turned key, engine fires into life, go to put on blue tooth headset......gone. Search car (for like 20 minutes) - no sign of it. Fetch service manager, he and car mechanic search car again - no sign of it. Can anything else go wrong?? Credit to the dealer, new headset was immediately purchased via handy Audiocom store accross the road. Someone has a thieving employee helping himself to customers trinkets.
So, it was a week of that Murphy fella having some fun with me. If your Commodore refuses to open/disarm for you one day, chances are its the body control module (or whatever it is called). Hope it does'nt though, it can really ruin your day (week). Another other victims to the bcm out there?
