Hey

A few weeks ago my oil light came on so I checked and I had a full tank of oil which meant I was losing oil pressure. Soon after I went to a very reliable mechanic (so I thought) to get the problem looked at and he advised that I should get an oil and filter change which I did, and it turned out my oil was very dirty and was clogging parts of the engine so problem fixed. I was driving the car around like normal, no noise from the engine; no oil light and the engine didn’t miss a beat until a few days ago.
I gave the car a little bit extra throttle to get through a yellow light and something exploded inside, lucky for me I was on my was to Holden in Parramatta (Sydney) to drop of my dad as his SS had a service, and it happen down the road from them. Got a call yesterday from the head mechanic and he told me the main bearings on the crankshaft snapped and that I should get a reconditioned engine rather than fix the problem due to extensive damage within the engine resulting from the main bearing snap.
When I asked why it happen the guy told me there was still a big clog in one part of the engine where no oil was coming through over 4000rpm so when I hit it to get past the yellow light my bearings snapped. He further told me that the blokes that did my oil change should have done a pressure test which would straight away pick up the extra clog and could have saved me my engine. But it was never even mentioned to me to do a pressure test so I’m a little  at the guys who "fixed" my car.

I have no idea what so ever about how to approach this problem so any advice would be great. If anyone knows any good places that sell reconditioned engines with warranty in Sydney please let me know. BTW my engine is a 5.0L V8 but I’m thinking about an upgrade to a 5.7L depending on cost so any place with V8 reconditioned engines would be great.

Thanks in advance for the help.

The part in bold i dont understand. How did he establish that theory.. clog part fine but the 4000rpm part

Probably just blocked oil pickup.

The guy at holden told me that at higher revs eg 4000rpm there was no oil coming through due to the clog. Last oil change was about 7-8mths ago and i dont no what oil was used but i think valvoline. I got the car second hand 1 year ago and did 2 oil changes since, dont know what the frequency of oil changes were like b4 that.

Anyway if you can let me know of any places that sell reconditioned engines in sydney that would be a big help.
